I can understand the above for the first time in our life we have a cushion and parting with it now is really hard to do, especially as you say "something" always crops up. When that happened we used to turn to the cc`s now it is nice to know the money is there.
I think its actually really satisying paying for something with "Real" money and knowing that you have actually earnt and deserve whatever it is you bought ! Even if in our case it was a new PCB board for the boiler and some brake pads !!! :rotfl:Hardly exciting purchases but fully paid for all the same !LBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !

:j:j:j:j Just to make sure I have some lovely colourful jumpy smilies for today, just checked the business account and we have been paid.:T Not by everyone that owes us, but by some people.
So, I have paid back the VAT account the £700 we had borrowed from there and also transfered the VAT amounts from what has been paid to us into that Account so there is enough to pay the VAT Bill when due. Paid back my stash of savings £250 that I had borrowed earlier in the week and also paid £200 to the taxman as we need to give them a minimum of £500 by the end of the month. As of today they have £236.00 , hopefully I will be able to top it up if anyone else pays us. Still not enough in there to pay the mortgage as yet, but fingers crossed it should be sorted. We have until the 30th June to sort that out. I have been able to cover the direct debits due out today. It doesnt leave lots in the business for fuel and Mr Pinots living expenses , or enough to pay us the rest of our wages but I think I can jiggle the money around enough to get us sorted without touching my emergency funds. Obviously I can draw on t e other funds if need be. It made sense in my head to pay those bits back and borrow from them again if need be. Thats where we went wrong in the days of the credit cards. As there were no savings anywhere, we used to borrow cash from the cards to pay the bills etc, but then not pay back as much as we should have when we were eventually paid as we were scared to incase we werent paid again. It then became a viscous circle.
Now in the bright intensity of the Light Bulb I can see how wrong that was. If we had paid them back everything each month when we could we would'nt have incurred interest charges and we could still have borrowed back if need be . Of course it wasnt that easy or we would have done it. Some months we would borrow £3000 to pay the bills yet only get £500 in, so the blame doesnt entirely lie with us not paying back the cards and obviously as mentioned before there are many other reasons for this debt........but I have updated the signature AGAIN to show the payments to Mr Tax Man ! Only £2000 left to pay them now, I think we should pay that off just in time for Septembers bill !!!
Letters went off ot WEstcot and Roxwell yesterday, I did eventually get an answer ont he site I had posted on for advice. A little late as I had already written the letters in my impatience, but thankfully what I had written and the way I was handling things seems to be the correct way to deal with the. I collected proof from the bank yesterday of all payments made to Westcott also and have requested a statement fromt hem . I also made a payment for Juen to Westcot yesterday rather than Roxwell who are now saying they are collecting the debt. Until such time as Westcot provide me with something in writing to say they have no further interest int he debt and sort out the balance correctly, I will continue to pay them and not Roxwell.
Ok, off now to collect DD1 from her Vocal Exam !! :eek:LBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !

I dont envy your husband/you being self employed we tried it once and it was a constant worry.. people not paying you on time, getting business in. With your business you also have the added expenditure of husbands hotels and food whilst away. Not easy so I think you do really well, and oh lordy if we all had the power of hindsight would that not be a wonderful thing.. So many things we would not of done, or should have done
My god I would be a millionaire... or at least mortgage free..

I'm with you on keeping the money as an emergency/fallback fund. You can keep it topped up and pay off debts. However, you won't feel as vulnerable as you have this month if the clients don't pay up on time.
