To add to my newfound list of talents (:rotfl:) and the success of the Car Repairs a couple of weeks ago............today I decide to attempt some light plumbing duties !
We have an ongoing problem with our drains and for the last few days when flushing two of the toilets, the water rather horribly bubbles back up and through the shower plugs (Yuk !) With Mr Pinot away and not wanting to pay out for a plumber, I decide to try and resolve it myself. Having now watched in the region of 7 plumbers try and resolve this particular problem over the years, I felt very well equipt to deal with this issue myself.
So ........looking rather fetching in my PJ's ( I have been cleaning all day) and flip flops, I ventured into the loft with a bottle of Washing Up Liquid ( as per previous plumbers )We have some pipework that pops up in two places hidden in the eaves ( I cant remember the technical name for it....I'm not that good yet !) I located them and tried to pull off the lid which apparently then needed turning upside down to make sure that a black ball that is inside bobs up and down, lubricate that with a little washing up liquid, and bobs your uncle. If the black ball bobs up and down, the toilets will flush and wont gurgle back up into showers ! It sounded so easy. I tugged and tucked and twisted but to no avail. Eventually after much huffing and puffing, one of them let out a loud gurgle and hey presto, the toilets are flushing again with no need for the lubricant !!
Now that the particular problem is resolved I am wondering which Trade I should dabble in next ?!!LBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !

I'm getting more confident in my old age, or is it just that I'm poorer, that makes me happy to attempt anything and everything :rotfl:
I was irritated though, at my attempts to fix the car a few weeks ago on the petrol station forecourt, by the amount of men wandering past muttering comments under their breath "Are you sure you know how to lift the bonnet love ?" " Do you actually know what your doing under there darling, or do you need a man to come and take a look at this for you ?!" Grrrrr  Its not the offers of assistance that get to me, its the way in which they say it ! I was perfectly happy in my own little world trying to fix the problem.

I had a very similar comment as above, from a so called skilled tradesman, over my painting skills a year or so back. I got bamboozled into letting a friend of a friend who was out of work to come and take a look and quote for the hall stairs and landing I was painting at the time, but it had been goign on a long while as I didnt have alot of time on my hands to finish it. I had no intention of hiring him to do the job (No money !) but was humouring them to be honest . He walked in, rubbed his grubby hands all over my newly painted walls and critisised everything and anything, saying how it needed to be done all over again , I was clearly using cheap substandard paint brshes, and he would kindly start in two days for the the pricely sum of £2500,00 !! Needless to say he was shown the door rather sharpish , I continued with my amateur paint job, and it looks very lovely indeedy. Thankyou very much !!
I'll will get back off of my soapbox once again !!!LBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !

Morning PG and a very happy birthday.:bdaycake:
Hope you have a fantastic day.... as Dopey says they can have your money but not your life. These are the things that are important to hang in there and soak every piece of the joy up, especially today.
My birthday present to you is a tip on clearing gunge and pipes. Pour half tub bicarbonate of soda (cheaper still 1/4 packet of soda crystals) into the drain........ add one bottle of vinegar, tesco cheapest at 13p a bottle works just fine. Waiting until the effervescent stops then pour down a kettle full of boiling water...... brill job done!
Love the story of the expert painter who could miraculously start on Monday. Good on you for showing him the door.
