Hi
I have a security camera at my fron door which connect to my tv via scart to view the images.
I have installed new cameras which plug into a dvr via bnp plugs, is there a way to convert my old camera to also plug into my dvr to I can use the recording facility.
TIA for any advice

BNP plugs?
But seriously, yes, provided both old and new are using composite video, it should be easy to get a Scart to BNC adaptor to connect it to the DVR. They are very cheap to buy these days now that Scart is dying out.0 -
LOL!
I have looked and asked in Maplin (thinking they would know) but can't seem to source the right thing !
I've seen THIS one but can't tell if it's the right thingI haven't got one!0 -
Sadly Maplin are a shadow of their former selves - these days they really only want to sell you Chinese-made remote control models...
Yes, provided what you link to has a Scart socket on the side you can't see, should be Ok.0 -
Try and find a DVR that isn't made in china or the east.
So on the camera you have, is it a phono plug, going to a scart adapter.
Then you just want a BNC to phono adapter which is available from Maplin

On the camera I am trying to adapt, the lead comes straight out of the camera (i.e. no connection) and on the other end is a scart plug which plugs into the scart socket on the back of the tv.I haven't got one!0 -
Sounds an oldish camera. Can be done, bit of a pain, but do-able.

then a phono to BNC cable.

In theory that should work, but seem's a lot of trouble. Unless it is a really good camera.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
If the camera is powered then one of the old consol/scart adapters works.
They are peanuts.0 -

If the camera is powered, then hopefully the other lead is one of these.
If it is one of those, a consol gaming adapter (av scart adapter) like this will enable you to plug the camera into the Yellow socket and view the camera on your TV.
Do not get the RGB to SCART one, you need a composite AV to scart adapter.
If it is a BNC then it will need converting to RCA using one of these.
The output from the camera is composite video, it is made up of a composite of all the signals required for video mixed together. The plug is just a 2 terminal plug, ther are many different types. BNC is the professional type as it is the better one which is more secure but an RCA is used by the cheaper ranges although for home CCTV is just as good. The adapter will convert the RCA connector pins and connect them to the composite video input pins on the SCART socket.
The adapter can be from an old xbox, a 360, a playstation1-3, a Wii et all.
Have a look in the back of the cupboards for the kids old ones (assuming you have kids who play consols).0 -
As mttylad says, it has got to be phono connection rather than a molded cable with a scart (would need to drill a fair size hole to get that through)
Unless it is a 4 pin din plug
Not this style of camera is it.
