:(I have just fallen victim to the scam for the first time as well... really gutted!

Basically Someone put a offer post on freegle for a 32inch tv locally which I replied to a week ago, and they replied yesterday on jenifer williams [williams0047@gmail.com] apologising that they hadn't got back to me sooner but they had to wait for Freegle to approve her logins so she couldn't reply, and as a result of that she has moved (which was the reason she needed rid of the TV and TV stand) but if we paid for courier we can still have it. to when I agreed. She said she needed rid of a laptop (which I assumed was faulty being freegle and all) to which I agreed to take as well. she said she will get in touch with a courier and get back to me with a idea of price.

I thought at least part of the idea of Freegle was that it was for the local area only and that you collected it yourself..........

Yep and there are warnings plastered all over it as well about not sending money, and about these scams generally.

  • Anyone requestng payment by UKASH or any money-transfer system such as WU should be considered a scammer. Since when did freegle recommend couriers???
"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"
  • I have just had the same scam happen to me. But the name they are using is Ruby Williams.

Offered as being in Liverpool but the mods took too long to post it so they relocated with the item to Norwich. They would send via courier etc etc as above. Got an email claiming to be from freegle mods regarding the UKASH vouchers and the courier they recommend within minutes of being told the courier prices.
That was what made me think this is a scam and I looked on here to see if it had happened to anyone else.

They originally offered a 32 inch lcd, then when they replied it was a 32 inch plasma and a laptop. They even sent me photos!!!!

I have recently lost my job and have a disabled child so I was really thrilled at the chance of having a working telly and laptop. But was always taught by my parents 'if it's too good to be true it usually is'

I have given away many fab items on freegle and received many myself. To abuse this to scam is just disgusting.

I have contacted my freegle mods who have reported to the police.

I really hope no one else falls for this.

Our local freegle moderator has just sent out an email concerning the courier scam and advising anyone who is offered a Freegle item and then asked to pay for a courier for it to be delivered to contact the police.

    Hi all,

I have been a bit of a fool.I made the mistake of trying to buy some tickets for the Rugby at the weekend on gumtree. I stupidly paid for some tickets and transfered some money into a bank account.

Guess what the tickets didn't arrive and I have been fleeced

I have an address, name and bank account details. Its been reported to my bank who suggest I get a crime reference number. I think the only thing that can be genuine is the account number.

Is there anything any one can suggest.

Would they not be able to trace the account number?

    Thanks all

The bank? Yes of course they can.

But they are not going to give that information to you are they?
    Data protection, privacy, etc.
For all they know, and I mean this in the nicest way, it could be you that is pulling the fast one.
How do they know that you haven't already got the tickets and now think it would be a good idea to get your money back?

That is why you need to approach this formally.
Get the crime number as they suggest.

Having said all that, I do fear that you have seen the last of your money.
    Sorry.
