... I find it amazing that mobile phone companies can get away with this - allowing people to run up huge phone bills... I just think that it would cost them nothing to ensure their customers are informed that they've run out of minutes, by a text or something.
All companies, not mobile networks only, are interested in their customers spending more, not less. It is their business to make money and it is naive (to put it mildly) to expect them to stop you from spending unless they are legally obliged to do this.

I know what you mean. I need someone to alert me when the toilet roll in the loo is going to run out.

    Indeed.

How dare a company publish their tariffs for all to see and then put them into use when people who signed a contract go over their inclusive minutes. How very dare they.

And how dare they allow you to check your usage whenever you want for free either via your phone or their website? My wife has a PAYG on Tesco and they even have the audacity to text her with her balance after every call...

I know this is calls, but o2's web page for showing me my usage has been unable to show me my data usage for the past week. When I called to ask why, they said they had a problem at the moment and were working on it. They couldn't say how long the system would be unavailable, either.

I'd ask to see an itemised bill if I were the OP. o2 obviously have a problem at the moment.

  • It amazes me how many threads there are like this recently. You'd be surprised how easy it is to forget am hour long call here or there, but they all add up.

At risk of sounding harsh, if you use it, you should expect to pay.
  • i wish i gave my daughter that advise. of just phoning up and not accepting responsibility for it
she was on a 40 a month tariff
she went over by a couple of 100 min and was landed with a bill for over a £100
she knows she was responsible for these minutes
she rang up the phone company and agreed to pay it off in two installments.
Shes 18..... how responsible is that.
    credit card bill. £0.00
    overdraft £0.00

Well I'm glad I phoned and asked as it saved me almost £100 there is no shame in that. I've had no problems with o2 before and been with them over 10 years. And they gave me the money back as a goodwill gesture no point in getting all moral and not accepting money back from a multiple million pound company. It's hardly tax payers money is it?.... Any way if this site is about money saving that's what I did and encourage others to do the same if they have problems with thier bill. If you don't ask you don't get. :)
