  • sunny is a girl i think , shes quite a pale yellow with not so pronounced cheek patches so think shes female although may be wrong:o
our lovebirds are a bit harder to sex as they show no visable signs (unless they lay an egg:))
we did originally have 2 who had babies, so we kept one baby of the batch. then at the last batch they were having some sun in the cage in the garden and my youngest opened the cage door and daddy bird flew off:eek: sadly we never found him so still live in hope he will turn up one day:( since then a man called me to say he had managed to catch one in his conservatory so we brought the lovely rio home who is a black masked, then 2 from rspca who knew we had lost our bird, plus a nice lady brought us a baby across called marley so we now have 7 lovies (the 7th is the baby who mananged to survive by being hand fed due to daddy flying off...sadly the others didnt make it)

peaches our mommy lovebird did go a bit mental after he went and started laying more eggs and humping daughter bird muffin, i did get rid of those eggs though as she had just come through losing daddy bird and the babies so didnt want her wasting away looking after her imaginary babies (especially since she was now in some hillbilly lesbian relationship:eek:) thankfully though now we have some more they have all come to be a lot happier together and no more weird business has gone on:o

sunny does actually believe she is a lovebird though as also used to follow the awol daddy sky about and play with the lovebird babies, a bit like bigbird lool.:p

Bella sounds like shes happy though with her eggs:), you may wake up to find one every 2 days if she lays like our lovebirds....so will look forward to hearing about how many she manages to lay:)

Love cockatiels :) I have six! And 2 conures and 2 budgies (slightly bird-mad maybe)

    What kind of conures? :)

I had a pair of zebra finches years ago, before I knew about ways of stopping/slowing down egg laying, once the female started laying she ended up laying about 4-5 on average every few weeks. They didn't even have a nest, they laid them in a food pot :) They were fertile but she preferred to eat them rather than sit on them, so didn't worry about babies. After a few years she and her mate did decide to sit on them, so we'd wait until she stopped laying then remove any fertile eggs.

Then we went away on holiday while she was sitting, and the person looking after them didn't remove the eggs... came back to two feathered babies! One of them is still alive, 8 years old male and still singing :)

Hope you manage to get a Bella photo OP ;)

You might find she will lay more eggs every 1-2 days. She will incubate them until she realises they won't be hatching after about 25 days, some are a little more persistent though and stay a lot longer.
Some people like to hard boil the eggs then give them back to the hen just to make sure they don't rot or break when she's sitting on them.

I don't think you can upload attachments directly to the forum, so you'd need to get a Photobucket account (or other image hosting site account) or I think you can do it without registering here: http://imageshack.us/ and then post the link here!

Any news on how Bella is doing? Has she laid any more eggs, is she still sitting on them? :)
