Of course an MX5 would do the job you are asking OP, in much the same way as I am able to climb Snowdon in my slippers. Do-able, but definitely not a good idea.

Please don't stick a tow bar on a MK1, it's just wrong. And I'm not sure that an MX5 with trailer is really the right image for a landscaper type person.

Just buy an estate car like every other odd-jobber does.

EDIT - oh, and OP, if you are rolling in cash, why are you bothering to scrat about for a few quid ferrying other people's crud to the tip?

The OP is a !!!!!! who got done for DD and is now trying to find something he can afford to insure whilst trying to run his landscaping business in a style even gippos would be ashamed of. Do you really expect any sensible options?

A tow bar on an MX5, what next:

    A Porsche Boxster

    Zonda

I would just love to see a Bugatti Veyron hauling a caravan at 250MPH:rotfl:

sure the mx5 is a status symbol if you work for tony and guy's :rotfl:

you can pick up a nice M5 for 40k
  • I have a tow bar on my mk1 MX5 and tow an Erde 122 trailer packed full of camping gear. We've done two runs Manchester to Norfolk with no problems at all.

I've got a beautiful retracting hard top MX5 and can't see why you'd want to pick that car to tow with. In my view you'll just look a t*t.
  • Ok got a Hyundai Matrix 1.6 with tow bar included. It was the most sober business option in the end. And it has a huge amount of space as the seats fold in twice, meaning it is equivalent with around what I'd get in a Berlingo. And it has a roof rack pre-fitted for ladders so I think I made the best business decision. Cost was £3700, £1076 to insure, with 11k mileage, 2008 model, drives well.

just hope thats buisiness cover you bought or youll have IN10 code to go with your DUI code and has youll have bags and ladders on roof youll be easy target for cops to easily make a quick check of your policy know you have DP&C and tug you, take your buisiness assest off you untill you have the correct level of cover. £1076 sounds cheap to me for buisiness class cover no NCB and DUI inexperineced driver also. quotes i had were over £3000 per annum with domestic insurers and £1950 with £1000 excess with liability insurers when i sought to set up my own mobile vehicle valeting service.
