Mazda MX 5 - questions

People have already explain ed to you why a car with no roof (and inherent decrease in structural rigidity) is far less suitable than almost anything made in the conventional form for towing. Low cars like the mx5, mr2 and mgf are particularly stupid for those purposes tbh, if you can't see why then I don't really think there's much point in continuing to try and help you.
Seems like you're kidding yourself on to me. The golf and bmw were just examples of "nice" cars that would suit your apparent task far far better0 -
next he'll ask if a smart car is good enough.
OP best bit of advice you can follow FORGET THE LANDSCAPING and stick to what your good at.
because you clearly have no idea.0 -
is it april fools???Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

It's you who have no idea mate and I've got more ££££ than you will ever have. I'm looking for work on the side complementary to working in an office. I therefore want, AS I HAVE SAID UPTEEN TIMES, a car which will suit my status during the day, and can have a trailer connected at evenings and weekends when work is available elsewhere.
If you weren't so obtuse in your responses I could get to grips with this, I could do this thing.0 -
In no need of further 'extensions' in this respect although I know you can only aspire....0

Yes an MX5 can tow. My mechanic - a specialist MX5 mechanic has tow bars on a couple of his MX5's which he uses for towing a small trailer. It also takes about 2 minutes to remove the passenger seat from an MX5 (4 bolts to remove) which gives quite alot of storage space if you don't need to take passengers.0

That's more like it JQ. Do you imagine he gets any of the problems others are describing on here, ie, roof becoming detached with pull?0
-
No, MX5's are pretty robust cars and will take a fair bit of abuse. He's been an MX5 specialist for 20 years and knows them inside out. They're also very cheap to service and maintain. Although, as I recall the tow bars are not that cheap when properly fitted. I guess you need to make sure it is properly fitted and you're not planing to tow a caravan. He uses the trailer for towing car parts and when going on holiday.
I would agree it's not the most sensible car in the world as a workhorse, but if you can put up with it's shortcomings in that respect it will put a smile on your face everytime you get in.0 -

Well as you've got more money than he and I will ever have, may I suggest a Range Rover Sport, BMW 5 series or Mercedes C class for the daily runner and a Mitsubishi L200 for the business?
As you obviously can't afford £7k insurance, may I suggest you don't have as much money as some of us on here do?
As for a car that suits your status, I believe general office workers run around in hatchbacks like Pugeot 207, Nissan Micra, Vauxhall Corsa, Ford Fiesta...0 -

im not your mate.
whats wealth got to do with anything.
reality check your status is office worker nothing more nothing less more than half the working population are office workers so your point of a "status" is nothing special.
you clearly have no idea about cars that can pull a bit of weight.
yeh youll get an MX5 towbar for a couple of hundred fitted.
look on the mx5 forums, youll research that this car is NOT UPTO TOWING and not recomended.
theres cars for stars and cars for bars, theres no inbetween.
are you that blind? you have been given advice all along in every thread you made about the stupid cars you want to pull with.
heres a recap.
engines over 1.6 are better because they have more torque.
larger cars are better as they deal with extra weight better.
deisel would be more prefured for towing as they have torque along with a turbo to help!
the buisness type you intend to have for 6 months of the year wouldnt benefit a corsa, ren megane coupe,or MX5.
we've all tried to help you, this car is going to be your main buisiness asset, you should be thinking allong the lines of that not your status to impress you work colleagues.
i give up here, you just cant educate pork.0
