Hi
Have just replaced all my cartridges with non epson ones and the printer is saying cartridges not recognised.
I was looking on ebay for some cheap but real Epson ones and the alternatives are listed as *chipped*. What does this mean? Can I adapt the ones I have in any way?
Thanks in advance

Early compatibles used a chip resetter
Your now have the usual chips on?
Does it say, this is not a genuine ink, do you want to continue, or not recognised and won't let you print?
If you still have the original Epson ones, put those back in and when they say empty, just replace one with a compatible and see how that goes
Other things to try are removing all the inks, switching it off, removing the power lead from the back of the printer, leave it for a few minutes, replace the lead, switch it on, load the inks when prompted to0 -
If you got your compatible cartridges off ebay then they may not be chipped, a friend of mine had the same problem.
I always use www.foxyinks.com and have never had a problem with epson compatibles, delivery included in the price, if I order 4 sets for mine it costs £1 a cartridge so can't be bad!!!0 -

It says not recognised and won't let me print. I will try your suggestion
ETA - that didn't work.rockin_plumber wrote: »If you got your compatible cartridges off ebay then they may not be chipped, a friend of mine had the same problem.

I don't understand what the chip is though0 -
The chip is a small bit of computer electronic circuitry on the cartidge which tells the printer it is genuine0

I use Pro Jet in mine, they show as " genuine Epson " in the ink monitor, you can get them from ukdvdr or bigpockets, though delivery is not included

Maybe you can get one compatible from anywhere which guarantees them, see if it runs, if it does, get some more0 -
I have seen some sites suggest that you remove the chip and "glue" it on the compatible......:silenced:
Depending on the cartridge it maybe located on the bevelled corner and looks like the chip on your credit card.
I have used compatibles previously without problem. Maybe need to tryout another supplier that offers a "guarantee"."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

I get Epson compatibles from inkraider.co.uk
I have had to put the cartridge in a couple of times on occasion to get the chip to register but that is rare rather than common and I get the usual 'non-epson cartridge' fitted pop-up but I just press continue and away we go0 -
i get my epson compatibles from inkpower via ebay, work a treat with my sx200 printer, no non-genuine windows, work straight out the bag, depending on the age of your printer make sure they say chipped version 7 mine worked out at under 70p per cartridge.
You didnt mention the model of your printer so i cant really checkout the price for you.0
