So if blood sugar is the only thing you have to correct. In a 5 hour shift a quick mars bar or something similar will raise sugar levels temporarily. If you keep them in your pocket you can drink them instead of wasting energy chewing as well. Always helping, I am.

Where I am working at the moment we are not allowed to take ANY food or drink on the shop floor. Then as we are not expected to leave the shop floor for 5 hours how would you manage to get the mars bar?

If you eat the right stuff, you will last longer without needing to eat. Though exercise will shorten that time.

No. it doesn't work like that. I do eat the "right stuff" as you call it and I rarely can go more than 3 hours without having something to eat.

Question - if you cant go 5 hours without substinance before you get too week from low blood sugar levels, especially given you can have a decent meal before that and also after it- how the hell do people survive in Africa where the environmental conditions are much harder - there physical exertions are harder and they have little or no food for long periods.

Just face it - the OP is talking rubbish. What the body "needs" to survive and to perform physical activity is a LOT less than we - in the over fed, over indulgent, and lazy western societies seem to think. Thats just fact. While there may be valid points about what you eat - when you et - how much you eat etc to be at the pinical of health and fitness - that is a LONG way beyond what you need to work and survive.

I don't know how people survive in Africa - lots of them don't by the way but I know I cannot go hours without something to eat. I do eat well but if I go too long without eating I go really pale, I shake, I am all sweaty, I vomit, get a bad headache or even a migraine.

When I first met OH over 30 years ago he had the same sort of view as you. We went to see his aunt and uncle, had a meal there and then had a 5 hour drive back. I started to feel sick on the way back and told him. Half an hour later I threw up in the car and he was really worried about how pale, shaky and sweaty I was! He now always makes sure there is some sort of snack in the car if we need to do a long journey!

You say you're 'not expected to leave the shop floor', not that it's forbidden. If the shop is quiet and there's plenty of staff to cover any visitors then would they sack you if you nipped to the kitchen area for a drink?

Don't know, not for me to say really, just offering some suggestions. Like OP you are now thinking of reasons you cant do it. Maybe you just need to change jobs?

its not a view - its medical fact. If you have these problems then you have an underlying medical condition - no matter how common that condition might be. I did say you could have issues - which would have a medical basis. P physically fit human does not have these issues.

Never going more than 3 hours betwen eating something ?? From a Doctor I find that truly amazing. Do you feed in the night? Do you feel sick, shakey when you wake up?

The feeling sick thing isnt anything to do with blood sugars though - energy levels do, but feeling sick is something else.

FWIW, Im 45, have a bundle of medical issues (though physiological mostly) and had brealfast today at 0500. i did this as I was at work at 0600. went to the ranges and spend the day running around with weight on, asult courses, fire and movement exercises. We got a 30 min breat at 1300, and out packup was a pasty, an apple, 3 buiscuits and a small drink. Then we were at it again for another hour and a half. No issues whatsoever - and neither did any of the other guys doing this.

Im not doubting you have problems, and that may well include blood sugar issues. That may even be fairyl common. What Im saying is it isnt normal, it has underlying reasons. if this is the case then you need a medical explanation for an employer so he can allow you to fullfil your needs.

As for that Mars-Bar - put it in your pocket at the start of work.

    .

I think that is an exageration of the grazing idea. 5 - 6 small meals a day would roughly work out at eating something every three hours followed by sleep if you were to have the same amount of time between each meal.

    That's a bodybuilders diet.

also for dieting as well just so you don't shovel food in your face but eat small portions.
