For the reasons I explained earlier: blood sugars.

    What deseise do you have?

if have have none then you talking sh*t. Blood sugars will not drop too low over a 5 hour period if you eat properly before and after.

if you HAVE a deseise then spell ot which one. That may make a difference. You would need a doctors note explaining the issue and your needs. if the employer is happy to abide by this then fine - if hes not ne may let you go. At this point you can choose whether to take him to tribunal as he sacked you (effectively) due to a medical complaint.

Ultimately though - IF hes prepared to give you leeway for a medical condition it will be the minumum he needs. that will NOT be an hour - paid - so you can cook, sit and eat a hot meal. It will be 20-30 mins unpaid so you can eat a pre-prepared meal you have brought in.

I never liked them. Sickely. And zero nutrition.

But what your complaining about ISNT nutrition - its sugar.

you cant have it both ways. Eat the nutrients before work and after - eat the quick sugars during.

Sorry - but your just looking for excuses and so far havent actually given any real reason why you cant do what your supposed rto be doing.

"Blood sugars not dropping that low" in 5 hours.....?????

Well - as I've explained further back - I'm healthy, BUT there will certainly be several times a year on average where I have no option BUT to eat something immediately as I've come over totally "all a flop" - no energy/shakey/etc and can barely "move a muscle". I would estimate thats down to "low blood sugar" and isnt a problem - because I know that I have to eat at regular intervals and DO.

There's probably a lot of us like it - ie not ill, but will (at least sometimes) be "the worse for wear" if we don't get some food down us promptly at mealtimes.

EDIT: Crossposting here - but I dont think the O.P. wishes to come back - from the flack he has had on here to date...
  • Several times a year isnt every day thoughis it - and more than likely due to not having the right things before work or the evening before.

If its not then there probably is an underlying reason.

Eather way - a quick bite on the go, be it a sugar loaded snack, or something else that can be gobbled in 5 mins would be enough to see you through the remainder of that 5 hour shift.

If you are hungry and see others colleagues sitting eating and drinking cups of tea a the tills then this will make you feel hungry as well, are you doing work experience for your CV or may be community work.

My friend employer was told to use the loo when on the one break that she was allowed during her shift. She no longer works at that large retail store.

The point I was making is that it would highly likely be quite a regular event for some of us to feel ill like that if we didnt eat meals at regular intervals.

Just the way work is nowadays, unfortunately.
I work 10 hour shifts unloading lorries, moving heavy cages, loading huge boxes onto pallets and shrink wrapping them pallets which kills my back.
I get very bad back ache every single day.
Generally lunch is a quick mars bar, usually eaten at the same time as i'm working.
I get low pay too. Life sucks, lol.
Every day at work im wondering whats more important to me. The little money I get from the job, or having freedom and not having to work, but getting less money (i.e a life of benefits which other people tend to choose)
I sometimes think 'they' have the right idea.

To think that our millionaire government we have wants to be able to sack employees at the drop of hat. No rights whatsoever, for employees at work even if you are disabled the employer will not want to keep you on and they will look for a reason to get rid of employees if they do not give them your pound of flesh. We are turning into a thrid world country as far as employee rights are now.

If we were fully in EU we would get far better employment rights but that will not happen because they government wants to blame people for the state that the country is in at present.
  • Are you crazy OP? I'm pregnant and have worked through my lunch several times this year! When it's been busy, I'm not going to let my collegues & company down by taking my break. I'd have a drink while working & tried to grab 5mins in late afternoon to have a biscuit or packet of crisps, then eat my lunch at end of shift before going home. This wasn't every day, but sometimes 3 times in a week.

I then took a couple of Slimfasts to work & kept in fridge, so when these situations happened again I could neck 1/2 a bottle & get on with things. The job is in retail, so lots of walking around, carrying light things.

If this was forced on me, or was a daily occurance then yes I would have a problem, but this is the real world 5 hrs work is nothing. You should be glad to have a job & that your employer isn't going broke/starting redundancies!!

Come to think of it. The OP claims nobody is allowed breaks etc BUT

The women who work there are allowed to stand at the till drinking a cup of tea and eating a piece of toast.

If the shop doesn't have breaks or allow you to get a drink etc. Why do they have a kitchen, kettle, toaster, bread, etc etc.
