I just feel that they cushion the blow better because they absorb some of it. Its a personal preference really!

If you use a gel/silicone case, when you take it off, does it have all bits and dirt inside it?

I bought this case recently (black/matte) for my 4S and despite its high price, its worth every penny...the case just oozes class. I'm using a phonedevil crystal clear screen protector which is almost invisible and retains the retina display quality on the 4S/4

The one I have for my HTC Desire doesn't the seller no longer sells anything though I have purchased some gel/silicone cases for my Iphone from ebay but don't know what they will be like - took me a few cases before I found the right one for my HTC

Another vote for Otterbox. Got one on my iPad, it could seriously maim someone in a fight!!

I'd always go for a gel/soft cover over a hard shell, as they protect better against impact damage IMO.

I finally ordered a case crown from amazon it arrived today and is the best cover yet!! Can't recommend it enough
