Thanks Rising, the Mortgage Advisor came back this afternoon and we got a mortgage agreed for the asking price on the house (80% anyway)... so we are waiting to see if our offer is accepted. If not we can now go up to the asking price, which we didn't think we could afford before. The repayments are £115 more then my current rent, but living there will save me £210 - £280 a month in petrol. So even with all the insurance I need and the Buildings insurance we will not be any worse off.
We will also have a little to save each month for bigger problems (such as the garden wall falls down or the car needs replacing!) lets just hope it takes a few years for either as it's not a lot of money we're saving!
The Mortgage Advisor was impressed at how organised I was, and that I had money for fees, and extra monthly for insurance.
I am so excited! I do hope the owners come back to us tomorrow!!

Hi everyone! Could I join you all please?
Been lurking on this thread for a while now and it has really motivated me.
I'm 24 and finally paid off all my debts in January of this year. After being a student I just basically spent what I wanted and didn't give too much thought to the future. When I left uni I was right up to my over draft limit and had several CC's to pay off. After a year of employment and still in my overdraft and with no savings I got sick of burying my head in the sand and decided to cut right back and start paying it all off.
Now I am debt-free I feel much happier and generally in control BUT lately some of my old habits have crept back. Yesterday I went shopping and I ended up buying some new clothes that I didn't really need (about £35 worth)...not a disaster but they certainly weren't budgetted for! Now I know this is just a small slip up but I'm really scared that I will slip back and get into debt again...does anyone else ever feel like this?
My husband and I are in the process of selling our flat and moving to a 3-bed house where our mortgage will be increased hugely, meaning I really can't afford to be having these kind of slip-ups!
Anyway, I'm hoping that this thread and speaking to you all will help to keep me on the straight and narrow!

Welcome B:D great to have a new face joining us .... and I can absolutely 100% say that you're not alone in the above. My 1st DF month, I racked up a huge CC bill as I gave up on all the DFW things that kept me in check (spending diary etc) - one of the main reasons I'm here & pretty sure it'll be a long time before I feel comfortable enough to leave the DFW boards!JulieGeorgiana wrote: »We have a house...!

Thanks rising from the ashes - I like the idea of a spending diary. Maybe if it's written down in black and white it'll put me off those silly purchases.
Thanks Mort.
JG - great news on the house!
Currently on the Easter holidays (teacher, not student) so a good chance to get on top of a few things. Today I am planning on tidying the flat and making it presentable, listing some old clothes I no longer wear on ebay and maybe some baking.
Hope everone has a great day

The house is giving me a headache! We have a garden wall issue that needs sorting (or rebuilding) and it's everyone elses responsibility!!
So i've threatened to pull out of the house buy and that got everyone taking it seriously!
I won't move in if there is a risk of the whole wall coming down on anyone in the garden or worse on the public side of the wall (lucky it's not attached to the house and it looks like it's not affected anything else)!
My friend should be able to re-build it for £1000 (materials, labour and skip) but why should I pay for it all??
ps. If I pull out then the owners have to pull out of their house they want because they are accepted on condition that they have a buyer for their house! Leverage??? I think so?!We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. Hello all.
This is my first month debt free, and I've got about £400 saved so far. But I've got this URGE to go shopping! I keep thinking about a dress I saw in the charity shop the other week, or CDs. I have got a couple of birthday presents to buy so hopefully that will satisfy the shopping devil**Debt Free as of 15:55 on Friday 23rd March 2012**And I am staying that way
