trying to sell a car!

Hi
I have a Vauxhall Zafira Im trying to sell - its not taxed but is SORNed and its MOT has only recently run out.
Its in very good condition for its age (03) and I have taken lots of pics to show cleanliness/mileage/general condition
I started at the price that auto trader suggested and have dropped £500 off the price since then...............................
...........so why wont it sell????
Ive tried the local paper/auto trader(twice) and ebay - what am i doing wrong?
Its a lovely car - a great runner - I dont need the space it offers any more and would prefer the space on my drive!!!
Any clever car sellers out there with any tips????:D

No mot would do it for me. I wouldn't have bought without tax before, as it's too much trouble to get home, but now with continuous insurance there's no choice on that.

    What price did autotrader suggest?

Why has it not got a MOT? People don't buy cars they can't drive, unless it's a project, Which you say it is not.

I always sell cars on eBay with a 99p start price and no reserve, not been disappointed yet.

No MOT means a trailer or transporter unless you're taking it straight to MOT.

Why bother with all that unless the price is very much lower.

  • MOT is vital, if you won't put it though a 40pound test, you must strongly believe it will fail badly.

As previously said, MOT. If I was buying a car with no MOT, I would expect it to be priced like a car that needed work done in order to get it an MOT. If it is as good as you say, it would definitly worth the £30 to get an MOT.

  • No MOT = spares or repair, trailer away, can't tax and drive it till it's gone from a test.

    Only tips are:
stick it on eBay at a low price, list it as spares or repair and list what it might need for the MOT
Get it MOT'ed and taxed ready to drive away
Get it MOT'ed and advertise as SORN'ed but can be taxed at buyers expense
  • I'm with everyone else. I would not buy a car with no MOT or Tax. Too much hassle even if you knew 100% that it would pass.

Still wouldn't be able to drive home without the Tax. I would have to wait for insurance papers to come through before I could Tax at the Post Office.

No MoT makes it logistically difficult to get the car. It also indicates that you believe it won't pass, as a £50 MoT would make the car far more valuable.

Considering that there are a few 2003 Zafira's on eBay for £1495 with 12 month MoT, I reckon a 2003 Zafira without MoT would struggle to sell for much more than half that.

As its a very run of the mill car, viewers of your ad will simply assume the worst and either bypass it, or the local traders will see the sinking price and offer you £400-500 for it as you sound desperate.
Get it MOT'd, washed, polished and the inside gleaming (and smelling fresh, not of accessory shop stink) and price it at the highest price for a similar car in your locale. Even flick through autotrader and find the best reading ad that sticks out and do a little plagarism, it caught your eye, so should work with someone else.
Failing that, if you don't want to put the effort in, ebay it and deal with the bottom feeders.

Does the 2003 model have the lap belt, or a full 3 point belt in the middle back seat?
That puts a lot of people off, (why buy a family 7 seater if you only get 6 real seat belts). If it has the 3 point, put that in the advert.
