Tesco Mobile - £580 Data charges - Help!

Yep, I cant really dispute that it was my phone that downloaded the data. I was just unaware of it! I can only think it was when I increased the amount of emails my account stores. Possibly my wifi router stopped and 3g took over. My usage is rarely over 200 mb a month so i must have downloaded more like 1.5 - 1.8 gb all in one session!!
No warning, not even a late text. Also annoyed as i called two months before to ask if they can stop me from downloading over the 1gb allowance only to be told no. I have since called and been informed that this is now possible! I expect this is because of people like me complaining!
I have been recommended giffgaff for £10 a month truly unlimited internet, so will be looking into this asap.
I would ask them for as much of a breakdown as they can give you.
1.5GB is insane and as I said before I am not sure if it's even possible to download that much in such as short period of time.
Emails wouldn't even touch this. 1.5GB would be hundreds of thousands of emails.
What sort of phone do you have?0 -
I agree it was my phone that downloaded the data, unknown to me, but why should i be punished because tesco dont restrict the tariff to only download up to the 1gb limit. What about parents with kids etc why should they be charged so much!
What about accepting personal responsibility for your actions or is that asking a bit much nowadays?
You used it, plain and simple. Its like blaming McDonalds for being overweight because they sold you a large Big Mac meals every time you ordered one when clearly you were fat and should have not been anywhere near McDonalds.0 -

3G speeds at my house are 7MBit. I could download 1.5GB in a couple of hours no problem.0 -
This why mobile company's do cheap tariffs knowing there's always someone that will go over there data allowance
They are not going to cap people because then you will not go over your limit
If you look on this forum nearly everyday someone is complaining about being over charged for the data use or roaming costs
With the amount of people complaining about data and roaming use you would have thought the watchdog or government would look into it.
Yes GiffGaff is truly unlimited data.......£10 giftbag gives you 250mins, unlimited text, unlimited data, free calls gg to gg also runs on O2 network

You are wrong. I already posted that Tesco Mobile do offer a cap.0 -

You and your kid go to mcdonalds for their eat all you want for a tenner deal. You pig out then go to the toilet. While u are there your kid asks for 100 more burgers, when you get back ronald brings over a bill of £580 for eating too many unlimited burgers!0 -
I have to agree its always your own fault when you sign upto a contract you are not signing up up for stated price you are signing up for unlimted bill which is why i find a lot of paygo deals are just as cheap or very much cheaper like giffgaff0

OK Should have put some will cap if asked
They don't automatic cap you when you take out a contract
I've been with Orange for about 5yrs and they have never capped me if i go over my data i have to pay extra also with 3 as well unless you are on all you can eat data.Nobody is Perfect. I am Nobody, therefore I am Perfect.

Actually you just have to choose the Capped option whilst 'signing up'.0 -
When I asked why the data wasnt cut off after i hit the limit he explained that all the data was downloaded in a single session and that their system only updates every 5 hours.:
I am all for people taking personal responsibility and in general unsympathetic to your post. Androids and Iphones have apps that measure data use, so normally you would have no excuse.
However, the bit above was interesting. Now £580 is some 130-140 mb of excess data plus your monthly line rent. If you were watching a movie or similar, then that's one thing, but if this was background in the middle of the night, then I would challenge this as that is one heck of a lot of silent updating!!
In any event, you need the data monitoring app and check it every day to catch these problems asap.0 -
I'm with Tesco £10 a month sim only and check my account online where it gives an itemised details of all calls, texts and data useage with a price against it then the charge to me being £10 for the month. Most recent bill the charges would have been more than £100 but the cost to me is £10.21. When I first took it out I checked my bill every day or so to see my usage and especially if I was away from home and wi-fi.Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama
