If cyclonbri committed all his ranting time over the past few years into getting a job in the promised land of the public sector, would he be happier? Discuss:
(nb, I know this is a discussion point rather than info/questions, but hell's teeth, it's no different to all of the OPs threads on Public Sector pensions ; ps. Using "PS" to mean "Public Sector" is a bit silly; Private Sector would be........?)

So this reliable source admits that 90% of private sector workers pay more than public sector workers for their pension. No that doesn't seem fair does it.0 -
Thats a fair interpretation!
I can see what is going to happen there, they persuade the lower paid workers to push the changes through then they privatise their jobs with no support from the higher paid. I think there is history there e.g. binmen.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

So what's the answer.....spitefully reduce our pensions or campaign for an improvement in private pensions?
It has nothing to do with spite, yes lets all do what the Greeks do we want better pensions, we don't want to pay more, we don't care where the money comes from.
ummmm maybe the campain idea is errr daft lol, but......
How about fairness, and affordability for all? Not just PC workers?
Neither get a look in with gready unions and the public sector workers who agree with this action.0 -

I think a great many feel the same way as cyclonbri - do you have 20 million vacancies for us?
If we all joined the public sector where would the money come from to pay the pensions ? Oh yes, I'd forgotten - the standard Labour/Union answer, keep adding to the national debt and let our kids pay.0 -

What do you reckon then - how about banning imports so we could put our prices up to cover the extra costs ?
Less choice, lower efficiency & higher prices for all - that should work.
Perhaps you should pay a little less attention to the relatively few, albeit newsworthy, 'fat cat' FTSE100 directors salaries and bankers bonuses and have a look at SMEs - who provide the vast bulk of private sector jobs - and see how many are struggling to survive, provide increased job opportunities and to generate the wealth which you take for granted will continue to subsidise your pensions.0 -

I think the salient point here is how do we (UK Limited) pay for public and private pensions?
Private sector pensions are by and large paid for by the private sector through direct contributions.
And public sector pensions are by and large paid for (eventually) by, well, the private sector through taxation (as are the taxes that public sector employees pay if you think about it!)
It's impossible for it to be any other way because the wealth of the country is produced by the private sector, and the public sector is entirely funded from this wealth and current borrowing. Let me know if this isn't clear, and I'll explain further if necessary.
So you can campaign until you are blue in the face but private sector pensions will never (again) reach the benefit levels that currently exist in public sector schemes. And the reason for this is that we live in a competitive commercial world, and if we (UK Limited) put up our prices to fund increased pension provision, then nobody would buy from us and we would enter the downward spiral.
And then where would we be?
In the same boat as Greece I suggest.0 -
Bigsmak,
Thanks for giving us yet another case where unions ARE actively telling members to quit their DB pensions. But did you happen to keep any copies of the propaganda leaflets so we can see them? you know Clapton and some of the others will not believe you unless you do ;-)
Hey.. not been on for a few days.. Unfortionatly it was the rep who addressed the masses that said this on the stage. I did say to my better half did she give you that in writing and I couldn't find it in writing. I was wondering whether she would have been actually talking about AVCs or the pension as a whole as that is a different matter.I work in finance
