There are already methods available not only in the internet browser itself but tools like Talk Talk HomeSafe that allow parents to control what their children view on the internet. The big four ISPs have already said they are putting tools in place to make it easier for parents to do this. Google itself at the moment is running a campaign with the CAB to raise awareness of internet safety. I don't view !!!!!! on the internet but I'm sure plenty of people do and last time I checked looking at !!!!!! wasn't illegal so why should people be blocked from viewing something perfectly legal because the tools already in place aren't being used.

Anyone with an ounce of tech savvy would be able to get past these controls easily, whether it is opt in or opt out and I imagine children now a days are.

I've signed both. !!!!!! if available should always be an opt-in it is far too accesible at the moment.

Page 3 etc is not something to be seen by children

We don't need a reproduction of the Great Firewall of China.

If your kids are watching !!!!!! on the internet, maybe a couple of questions should be asked:

    1. Why aren't they being supervised while surfing? There's much worse than !!!!!! that is easily accessible on the internet.
    2. Why are the kids using the internet on a computer that doesn't have the most basic of child controls on it?

This is a very good idea, and it's probably not just kids who need to be protected from violent and offensive !!!!!!. What about the teenagers, who may be legally old enough to access !!!!!! but who are getting all the wrong ideas about how women (and men) should look, how they should behave, how long sex is supposed to last etc etc? We all know that usually, sex is nothing like it appears on !!!!!! sites, no wonder our young people are confused, to say the least.

Personally, I don't have a problem with adults looking at !!!!!!, me and DH both enjoy it now and again. We have parental controls on our computer and our teenager doesn't have a laptop yet, so we can monitor what he is watching in the kitchen, for the moment anyway! We're not looking forward to the conversation with the Virgin call centre staff though, I can just imagine DH shouting down the phone to some poor Indian telephonist saying "I want !!!!!!, I want it...don't cut me off!":eek:

re the second petition "Ban 'Page 3' and soft !!!!!! tabloids that make a mockery of a government that says it takes equality seriously. Page 3 photographs of teenage girl's breasts are exploitative and offensive and 'soft !!!!!!' tabloids such as the Sunday Sport send dangerous messages to youth about the sexualisation of women." what about topless photos of men? near nude photos of, for eg David Beckham advertising...... all women should have perky breasts and and all men should have a six pack ?

Quite possibly the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Haven't these people got a school fete or a tombola or something to organise to keep them from meddling with real world stuff like the internet.

It's a pointless petition as it's impossible to enforce.

You can register a website anywhere. You don't have to state what that site is or provides, so unless you want to have a huge team of civil servants trying to police the world wide web you're done for. Even at that they could never keep up with the sheer volume of new sites up each day, or sites that migrate when they see they are being tracked.

Also much like mainstream movies, games, music etc most people who are PC savvy or young enough not to be intimidated by technology could download !!!!!! films from torrent or newsgroup sites.

If the World Wide Web was easy to police illegal music downloading would have been killed alongside Napster. You wouldn't be able to source and download the latest blockbuster in your cinema even before it's in your local cinema! And the games industry wouldn't be moaning constantly about the billions they lose in sales due to illegal downloads.

Trying to block !!!!!! on the web is like trying to ban the common cold. Despite it's use it's amazing how many folk don't really understand how the World Wide Web works.
