You'll also need a PAC from Tesco to be able to port your number.

there is alway the option (if you can afford it) of buying the phone outright from Apple for £499 and getting either a cheap sim only deal or a giff gaff sim (£10 amonth 250mins unlimted internet and texts) - uses o2 signal so may still be an issue for your area...

I have just got my sim and transferred my number to giffgaff, just saving for the phone now as fast as I can but works out at about £25 a month all in (phone cost and top ups) for 24 months.

I had the 4 for a year before I upgraded to the 4s, And even on orange I had dropped calls on the 4, You need to pick very carefully when looking at networks, My boyfriend has his 4 on Vodafone and his is much better than mine for signal.

If you go to phones4u they are offering a £200 highstreet voucher with any phone contract taken out with them, Tell them exactly what you want and see where you get, If you don't like the deal, Walk, They are usually on commission so will bend over backwards for the sale.
I ended up getting this deal online
    http://www.phones4u.co.uk/basket/ShowBasket.asp?ErrorType=7&ErrorNum=1&ErrorItem=504159|Apple%20iPhone%204%2016GB%20Black%20O2%20iPhone%20100%20-%2024%20Months
I dont use many minutes or text but want to be able to check emails and skype.....so fantastic !!!!!!
i got £42.00 cashback on topcashback so better than nothing !!!!!!

My wife's phone does this and it is Tescos network (O2) not having enough capacity in our area.

OTOH, it could be the widely known antenna issue of the Iphone 4. Try holding the phone differently because if you hold it in a particular position it shorts out the antennas and drops the signal.
yes i know not to hold the sides or it cuts out....
tesco customer care leaves a lot to be desired !!!!!

Cut the line without telling you? Very reasonable thing to do if you cancel the order.
Calm down. I don't see anything to complain about.
Quite the opposite, I am under impression that you don't know what you want.
I love the handset its just not being able to make a call , receive a call and not getting on the internet every day I wasnt happy with !!!!!
If you blame the handset, why it's Tesco's fault and why do you want to buy the same handset from another retailer?

Err No it;'s not because then you cannot port your number. if they cut the sim card.i still have their flipping phone cos they havnt sent me a jiffy bag to return it .......its en route !!!!
It is reasonable to expect a phone to work, My daughter has the iphone 4 on o2 network and hers is fine !!!
TESCO ARE CRAP !! EVEN tho they use the o2 masts !
i was within my rights to cancel if it was not woking properly

It's not Tesco's fault that the handset doesn't work though.

Did I miss something, or isn't the primary use of a phone to make and receive calls? I don't think I'd love a phone that couldn't do that.
I see Apple are already planning to release a fix to iOS 5 to address a bug which causes a very short battery life in the 4s.
Consider a different phone and save some money.
