A Year of Living Frugabulously

 Hi Lula
This sounds like my kind of diary - based on a comment on your first post - about shopping at Waitrose and not cleaning your own car :rotfl: a girl after my own heart
cheers for the hint on the eyeliner.
Mascara wise I'm currently loving a Boots 17 one - comes in a leopard print tubeand it completely rocks! I'm a MAC/Chanel girl at heart but lately have been exploring some of the cheaper stuff for experimenting with. Barry M, Collection 2000 and Boots 17 have been very pleasant surprises! :T

Hello there, stumbled across this whilst looking for another thread, what a nice find. We all need to have something to lift us, to make us feel happy for our thrifty moments. Diehard frugals are tutting at me, I know but pfrt.
'Frugabulous' sums up my own philosophy - see my signature. Pink Rose Candle Philosophy is all about not putting things aside for best, be it toiletries, make up, food, clothes, household items or whatever. Best moments come along so infrequently. Meanwhile our expensive purchase or gift that tied up your or someone else's money sits unloved in a cupboard.
I practise what I preach, this year I have got my toiletries stash down by using up all the lovely gifts I've been given. I've worn earrings and necklaces even when I haven't been out that day, with a zoosh of perfume on pulse points.
Thanks for sharing so much of your story - what a nightmare you had with the energy company. That should have been a complaint to the Ombudsman. I've just moved providers for the first time in about ten years. It's much easier than it used to be- (hope that's not jinxed it).Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -

Maybelline Mascara for the win everytime - sorry but it is the only mascara I will ever wear. It doesn't bit or flake and is ace and is great if you have sensitive eyes which I do.
Nipped out earlier as had to post letter to council with evidence of my JSA, then visited the corner shop for milk but I also visited their whoopsie shelf and came out with a packet of Fox's crinkle creams that had been reduced to 99p and a bag of treatsize chocolate buttons for £1.09 (that way I can have little indulgent treats of choc over the next week or so). Why is that biscuits and choc bought from the whoopsie shelf taste nicer than when you pay full price for them?
My bathroom is littered with showergel bottles all part used..I have vowed that I will use up every last drop before buying more. I am also trying to eke out the Nivea one that I bought in gran canaria last year - it is a lime oil shower gel with grainy bits in to scrub the skin - it is ace and I could curse that Nivea do not sell it over here:( I have enough lotions and potions to sink the titanic.0 -
Ok so no mascara hunt today after the non stop downpour for a few hours. Just went to the supermarket instead.
did have a little play with an eyeliner at teatime to see how that looked to get a more dramatic smokey eye - not too bad, just need to sort an eyeshadow out and my current mascara may do? Will see or may cave in with a new one........

Don't get me started on energy companies - I have avoided switching as been dithering about moving, and wanted to pay actual bills monthly. Which would work if the barstewards ever actually used the readings I send them - instead I log readings, they estimate something different, I complain, they redo it, I pay the actual one on payday and then receive a whiny letter that I didn't pay it on the very first day they suggested. Now complained loudly enough to get large credit in Jan and after that will see how the land lies.
New mascara picked up today - got a No7 Intense Volume. I also usually get my lashes tinted, it's the only thing I can be bothered turning up to a salon for but it really makes a difference on me.
Purple boots have been tried on today and they fit and I can walk in the heels, however am going to be good and order via Quidco on payday. Nothing to do with the M&S pjs ended up buying today *cough*.
Surprisingly few chores here, mainly due to frantic cleaning in the week before having people over :rotfl:

Hello hello & welcome to skint spice  - thanx for the tatco voucher tip will try that - Chrisblue1962 , lionheartedgirl , mucculloch , & nice to see you again too Horace ,.
Enough of this waving, I feel like the Queen & it's making me giddy.
Life is far too short & unpredictable to save things for best ... I rarely have a 'best' anyway so am fully embracing making the most of every day :j. It just so happens that this morning I was enjoying not having to get up & do the school & work commute so wearing pyjamas until midday was my 'best' outfit :rotfl:.
The whole energy drama was a few years ago now & before I discovered the real eighth wonder of the world > :money::D.
I also paid PPI for years - oh, need to do something about that - & repaid hundreds of pounds to a DCA for a debt that the ex had run up in my name
Ignorance is a costly affliction & I do my best now to spread the knowledge to the innocents
After a lazy & very FRUGAL morning : no electricity used to hoover,
I've been spending again. I hate not using a decent money off voucher - still smarting over the 50p primrose voucher I forgot to use at nearby gardne centre - so took my pocket money out for a trip to Boots & actually came home without most of it too
.
I bought a fab nail colour for just £2, then decided I needed a topcoat to help the colour last a bit longer, some cotton wool & polish remover & then decided that I may as well make the most of my double points token & get a spare of my favourite lip colour & gloss & a couple of hair slides for those 'can't (be bothered to) do anything with it' days. Total cost of my haul was £26.03 & I now have just £8 of pocket money left until next payday.
Never mind though, I am now fully stocked with skincare & cosmetics to see me through the next 3 months. I also have nearly £40 in points to spend so can use those if I run short of cash when on super frugal times.
I parked in Waitrose as it's free ( FRUGAL again) & we needed to get some fresh food. Essentials make up wipes were greatly reduced so I grabbed 2 packs & have to say I see no point in buying branded ones at twice the cost. I think they work fine & even remove waterproof eye makeup without much hassle so at £1.16 a pack, well worth it. Total spend in Waitrose was £28.91 of which £24.59 was groceries.
Total Grocery Spends are now £41.86 & I have £8.96p left in my purse but I reckon I won't need to shop again until late next week, took the precaution of buying milk to freeze.
How odd that different brands of milk have different capabilities where freezing is concerned. Can't freeze co op stuff, but can with tatco or waitrose own brand stuff .
Had a FABULOUS afternoon whereby we ate mini chocolate muffins, painted nails with glossy new colour & watched Some Like It Hot, which I've never seen before & is really funny. I was surprised it was black & white though. I love all those 50's & 60's films & am working my way through a list; much to DDs chagrin.
She is off to see the latest Twilight film with friends next week & very excited too. I made the error of searching on ebay for merchandise & found myself buying a black hoodie for her for £12.99. It's quite acceptable though; just black with the word twilight printed in white twirly font below an apple. I can't bear all that 'Team blah blah' or Mrs Whoever stuff & I was not about to let her walk around with a top that invites people to "bite me"
My lappie battery is low - think it's caught that disease off the phone - so I cannot confess my sins on the Clothes Challenge yet ... but I wont be at all surprised if they become mutineers & throw me off there soon, I'm so bad.
I do have to sort out my new photocard for driving licence as I got the reminder today but otherwise hope not to have any spends to declare for a few days ...
Tomorrow is all about chores - ugh _pale_
G'night

Sounds like a fab day was had0

Hey Lula,
Spotted the title of your diary and immediately clicked on it and subscribed too! Love your way if thinking about things; frugal on its own can be very depressing so your way around it is great!
Thinking about starting a debt free diary this month so will be following other diaries which are also new to help me along the journey so I hope you don't mind me tagging along. Might not be able to add to your chat about "fabby girl stuff" being a guy but might have some insight being a gay guy! Lol!
Can't believe your tale of woe with your previous energy company. You really should file a complaint with Ofgem or else they'll never learn! I'm currently rather annoyed with Scottish Gas (part of British Gas) as they keep saying they've set up a direct debit for my gas but it never comes out of my account which has resulted in me owing them over £300! I can't understand why they don't take the money as all the details are the exact same as for the electricity!
Anyway, looking forward to following your diary.
Best of luck,
