I'm going to make a pie tomorrow (yum:p). Havent used my pie dishes for ages, and had to root around for them - now I've found a metal pie dish with holes cut out all over it?? Cant remember if it came with a bottom and you use the two together or whether you are supposed to place it on a baking tray or something - does anyone know please? Has anyone got one similar

I think the holes in the bottom are to let your pastry cook without the base going all soggy. At least that's what my pizza tray is for.

Right, my turn to ask a daft question.

And answers are needed quickly, or I'll just be telling you how it turned out!

I have 1 lb of stale brown bread soaking in 1 pt milk, about to be turned into a bread pudding.

Usually I put 2 eggs into this recipe, only having mentally committed myself to the bread pud I then remembered we ate the last eggs at lunchtime.

SO, since DS2 has declined to go and buy eggs, and I'm now minding the pizza I put in the oven for tea (OK I've declined to go and buy eggs too but he'll eat more of the pudding than I will so that's fair enough!)

Do I just lob some more milk in and hope for the best?

or INSIST that someone goes to buy eggs?

    TIA

Have you got any birds custard powder or cornflour that you could add to help thicken the milk? Maybe add a bit to some milk then add that to the pudding?

Well, the panic is over because the chap we live with took pity on me, decided to go and buy pizza rather than cooking cheese on toast for HIS tea, and came back with eggs. So although I had slopped some extra milk in, I'm sure that will be fine because the bread was VERY dry! He's quite partial to my bread pudding, so I guess that helped! And his thought corresponded to mine, that it wouldn't hold together very well but would fall apart when cut (and eaten!)

Thank you, those are good thoughts: but we don't 'do' custard and I suspect my cornflour is rather out of date, not something I use a lot! They may help someone else though! I can't be alone in my lack of foresight ... :rotfl:

DD has food tech on Monday and needs a healthy pudding recipe. Any suggestions? ( She's 14 and loves raspberries!)

    Hi mintymoneysaver,

Fresh fruit salad or baked apple with raspberries are the first things that spring to mind. You might find more ideas on these threads:

The links to waitrose recipes no longer work, so if anyone's got the recipe for their mississipi mud pie I'd be grateful
