  • My aunt used to have a metal butter dish in 2 parts. You put the butter in the top part and hot water in the underneath part which the top part sort of sat on. I often wish I'd kept it as this is such a good idea. Maybe you could adapt this idea by taking the amount of butter you need and putting it in a bowl and placing this in a bowl of hot water.

Another way is to slice* up a block of butter into individual portion sizes (like you get in canteens), then leave out as much as you need the night before. It's easier to soften a small piece of butter than a large block.

  • Quick question - can anybody help me? I've been soaking ham for almost 3 days now, didn't deliberately mean to but stayed at relatives. Can I still cook it?
  • Can anyone help? I am making a chicken tikka sauce, and it has fromage frais in it. Will it be OK to freeze this sauce???

    Cheers xx

It'll be fine as long as it's been soaking in a fairly cool place, just not as salty as normal.

I'd let my nose be my guide - if it smells ok then it's ok.

Hi everyone. I know I'm late putting marzipan on my christmas cake, however, what's the quickest, best way of doing it? as a blanket over the whole thing or covering the top then cutting long pieces for the sides? Your advice is most appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.

    Hi tattycath,

Probably too late for you now, but I roll it out and do it as a blanket over the whole cake.

    Hi Iwannbedebtfree,

I think the thread you are looking for might be this one started by thriftlady:

If that's not the one, please let me know and I'll have another look for you.
