  • Not got much time to go through a lot but I have been 6 or 7 times to various area in the Algarve

If you are looking for somewhere quieter but still with restaurants/beaches etc then try

    Lagos
    Alvor
    Praia Da Luz

Try and avoid the areas below if you dont want any wild nightlife on your doorstep. Saying that The Algarve in my opinion is still nowhere near anything like some of the Costas for loud, noisy resorts

    Avoid
Albufeira (Montechoro strip area) Old Town quieter but still busier
    Praia Da Rocha

Ill be back online later if you have any more questions or queries i will try and assist

Hiya - we go to the Algarve in Feb every year and I love it. It is quieter the further away from Faro that you go. We stay in Quinta do Lago, which is beautiful but very 'golfy' and can be quite expensive. Quarteira is a real concrete jungle, Villamoura has a lovely harbour but again is quite commercial.

For a family holiday I would reccomend going nearer Lagos - Bergau (sp?) is lovely, still quite unspoilt with fab beaches and restaurants. I have friends who have gone to Taveira (go right from Faro instead of left) who say that that end of the Algarve is also lovely but haven't been there myself.

The Algarve is fab for families, my kids used to get thoroughly spoilt by all the restaurant staff when they were younger and the beaches are all very clean. Have a great time

Try the Gale area, its an ideal family holiday area being quiet but still a good selection of restaurants and right next to the beach.

    Hello,

Sorry to butt in on your topic, but we have thinking about the Algarve in Feb and wondered what the weather was like? Is it going to be hot enough for lying in beach/by pool etc?

It's not really hot in Feb, it's warm, you can walk about in T shirts but not really hot enough to lie on the beach or by the pool in my opinion.

Eating out goes from cheap and cheerful to 5* cuisine but can recommend the fish - it is superb, generally just lightly grilled and very cheap compared to the UK. Also chicken piri piri - a regional speciality and very good. Most restaurants put bread and pate / olives on the table when you arrive, which you pay a cover charge for. They are very happy for the children to just have an empty plate (no charge!) and either share a meal betwee them or have bits from the adults plates - we have spent years divving (sp) out meals but sadly mine all want their own food now which makes it a more expensive option - guess I can't complain as they are 15,13 and 11 lol!

We find the weather is usually mid to high 60's - we wear shorts / t-shirts etc and do sunbathe sometimes . It is colder in the evenings though so take a jacket and be warned - we have had rain, although never more than a couple of days out of our week and it is always much nicer than the weather is back here!
