very few bosch washing machines are made in germany, if any, they are made cheaply in spain. they ar enot great quality at all any more, and as someone who used to sell them i woud question whether they really were as good as people said years ago. you cant get a decent machine for under 300, sorry, but you can't. those who praise beko :rotfl:sorry, but you must be blind, they are appauling build quality with cheap parts and horrendous replacement part prices. still, each to their own, some people are happy with tat, i'm not0

It never fails to amaze me how many people on this moneysaving website are in a rush to tell you to buy expensive premium branded products. I'm quite sure it's just snobbery. If bottom of the range products were as certain to fail as they'll tell you, then these companies would be permanently be in court answering to Trading Standards. I see just as many threads from people with broken down Bosch and Miele appliances as I do Indesit.
Personally I believe that bottom of the range machines will often be more reliable because the 'compromise' manufacturers make is that they keep them a lot more simple - controls are more likely to be manual with a lot less input from tempremental computers - quite simply there's less to go wrong.
I'd say I've always bought bottom of the range and been quite happy - but I've only bought one washing machine in my life - a bottom of the range Indesit 15 years ago and I'm still using it and it's never ever been repaired (hard water area and I've never used limescale remover either!):T
I've had a variety of £30 microwaves as well that I've only ever replaced because I fancied a different size or colour and never had a break down. My £100 White Knight tumble dryer has been tumbling happily for 4 years now. In 20 years of home-owning I've bought bottom of the range on everything and always been very happy with the results - I see no reason to change this habit, I can think of far more interesting ways to spend my money than on fancy brands of washing machine!0 -
I had a Beko and it was fine. I then needed a washer dryer so bought a Bosch from ebay for £137. It is still going strong two years later.0

I do think that something like Mele may be better than some of the bargain basements, not that I'm likely to buy one.
One reason you see more issues with the cheaper "brand" is that there is simply more of them around. They also probably get used the heaviest too.
We don't overload our machines and whilst we currently have 1400 spin rarely use it on that on the basis that we are under stressing it.
We have had 3 hotpoints 17, 5 and the current one is 2. The second one was still running just didn't know when it was going to give out and we had some spare wonga for anew one at the right price.
At the end of the day it washes clothes.

The one thing with cheaper brands is that they are not always so aesthetically pleasing, in part, to put you off I am sure. A bit like supermarket own brands especially the "value ranges".
Saw an advert for a new Hotpoint the other day - has new technology apparently - "hydro thermal" IIRC - isn't that warm water?
There are some interesting looking far eastern brands hitting our markets now. I wonder if the Koreans have similar debates?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Don't know if you have purchased your new washing machine yet, but is this any good?? http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/sol/shop/appliances/114235799_beko_wm5100_washing_machine_white.html?hnav=4294967293

I have a family member with a new Beko washing machine. Broke down 4 weeks ago and still not fixed, waiting for parts from abroad!
Then had a customer this week with a new Beko fridge freezer, broke down and guess what? Still waiting for parts from abroad after 3 weeks!0 -
I've had good service from both washing machines and fridges made by Indesit. Did you know that Comet have an auction website for ex-display or slightly damaged stock? http://www.clearance-comet.co.uk/
Might be worth a look, or asking in local small retailers. I once got 20% off a fridge with a little dent in the side (which doesn't show when fitted amonst kitchen units) Good luck in your search!:TThe beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

We needed a new washing machine 2 years ago when money was really tight and bought a Beko. No problems at all so far and it does the job its supposed to do - it gets our clothes clean. Yes it might be cheap tat but I have to be happy with that because its all I can afford.0

Hi -
Sorry to hijack the thread!
Washing machine just broke today (door handle snapped off) and it probably will be more hassle, trouble, and expense to fix than it is worth. (got it second hand from a friend, servis make, and no clue of the model number, and at least 6+ years old).
I've narrowed down some possibilities and am planning on looking / possibly purchasing tomorrow. (Can't really wait too long to get it as I have a very full basket of dirty clothing and no local laundromat!)
Basically, anything I am looking between 7-8 kg (enough to fit a double duvet in), and at least 12krpm. It won't be used too heavily (maybe once or twice a week), and the simpler the better.
I know that Currys/Comet have their prices change tomorrow (Thursday), but at the moment this is the best I have found -
BRAND MODEL KG SPIN ENERGY STORE PRICE
beko wmb71442 7 14 a+ argos 250
beko wmb71642w 7 16 A+ Sainsbury 231.99
beko wm74135w 7 13 a+ currys 219
beko wme8227w 8 12 A+ tesco 229

indesit wixxe127 7 12 a argos 250
zanussi zwg7140p 7 14 a currys 259
Anyone else have any other suggestions or preferences?
Thank you so much for your help!0
