Another alternative to Lego is K'Nex or Geomag. DS liked those.

I have a 5 year old nephew and I've gone with 'predictable' for a Christmas present, Lego and a Lego sticker book.

If you're looking for a stocking filler (God, I hate those words) type present then, for some reason, a fun torch always goes down well. Well, it does in my household!

we have the same problem, my son is 5 in january just after new year, we are looking at imaginext for him this year and some games for the xbox and ds.

the one thing he really wants is a shop, god knows where i will put it.

My son wanted a shop a couple of years ago - he is older, but has learning difficulties. I bought a sweet shop from Argos for a tenner. He enjoyed weighing the sweets, sorting them out, getting sticky, etc. The sweets can, of course, be eaten and replaced, but you wouldn't want to eat them after my lad had finished playing with them :rotfl:. As it is, he has severe feeding difficulties, so eating them wasn't an option - he just wanted to play with them.
