Xmas Presents for 5 year old boys - ideas, please!

I have three boys and struggle with what to buy the younger ones as we already seem to have bought a version of what they might like with the older one! In particular, my 4 year old just says he wants the same as his older brother for Xmas so I'm really struggling on what he might actually want. To make it harder, he has a birthday 4 days later so it's double presents all round!

I have purchased a Vtech laptop 'game' for him which I think he will like but would be grateful for ideas as to what the rest of you are buying your 5 year old boys!

  • Hi, I've been looking online too to see what 5 yr old boys might like this year for Christmas. We have a 9yr old grandson + his brother 5yrs . Have bought them both Nerf guns as their dad said they'd play together with these. Have got quite a bit for 9yr old but just the gun + one of those magic writing screen things for 5 yr old. Trouble is they both seem to have had lots of things already. Got V tech laptop last year .They have nintendos already . Maybe get a game for that . Children seem to get so much , don't they ? I like buying the presents but sometimes they're not played with that much but they seem pleased to get them at the time. Will be interesting to read if anyone comes up with any ideas . Does your boy like Lego , hot wheels, maybe a small cd player for read along stories , books for beginner readers ? Good luck !

I find that even with only 1 boy we still have so much "stuff". So part of my child's christmas present this year is tickets for a trip on a steam train between christmas and new year. Maybe your LO would like something similar or you could have a trip to a panto, the zoo, an aquarium, a local football stadium or another attraction locally depending on his interests.

My son at five loved board games (he is 8 now) - Guess Who, Connect 4, junior monopoly etc. We also got him loads of pens, pencils and colouring in stuff, and books. He has never been into toys as such, rather games and puzzles.

My DS is 4 next week and I think he already has plenty of toys.

I have bought him a VTEch camera as he loves taking photos, a pair of roller skates and a ben and holly activity book (he loves Ben and Holly, Charlie and Lola, Disney stuff, cars, buzz lightyear, Peppa Pig).

He likes books, so will get him some for xmas especially as we are trying to teach him to read.

he has a bicycle and a scooter, so not buying these this year.

He loves his cars and has plenty!

We bought him bricks when he was 2 and he still plays with them, stacking them up, making bridges, houses, etc.

I bought him a giant floor puzzle, which he loves. It is teaching him to understand edges and how to connect pieces together.

At nursery he loves trains and tracks.

My six year old likes weapons. So Nerf Guns and suchlike, otherwise I like to buy presents that have some longevity. This year we are getting the boys Meccano sets. I am sick of stuff that breaks/doesn't get played with or essential bits get lost.

My Nephew has just turned 6 and for christmas weve bought him lego. For his birthday weve got him vouchers for the cinemas as he likes going there. So I agree a day out could be good. I think he likes dinosaur stuff too.
