I took on an Avon round a year ago, which basically my DD runs but as she is only 15 it's all in my name and I oversee it but it gives her some extra pocket money and has taught her about commission and balancing the books! I always order online - that way you get extra time to place orders (paper ones need to be sent on Thursday for me but I can place online orders up until the follwoing Monday, which gives an extra weekend to get the orders collected.

We did a couple of parties before Christmas, which were very successful and earnt great commission so am thinking of doing a Spring one, trying the persuade everyone to get their suntan lotion - which I used last year and is fab, particularly the tan maximising one which containes beta carotine. Be warned though - you end up with orange on your underwear!

If my avon rep came to my door at the weekend or when i come home from work, i would be inclined to buy more. I like their foundation and need some more but theres no avon rep about when i need her! will just have to squeeze out the last few drops until she appears!

My mum does Avon, has done for over 10 years, she enjoys getting to meet the customers. Of course, it does depend a lot on your area, some are better for orders than others, even within a small town like ours - the western half is nearly dead business-wise.

Anyway, it's a lot of work, putting out the books, collecting them, typing up the order on the PC, getting the goods and putting them out again, but it does pay well. Avon themselves are helpful, if you don't mind the odd hiccough over credits and returns, and of course the freebies are great too - most of our bathroom stuff is free from Avon.

I'd say go for it as a side-earner. Actually you end up having very little contact with your team leader, certainly none of the weekly visits that Betterware prefer, you're pretty much left to get on with it, and there are no weekly targets so little pressure.

Try to get a raport going with your customers, and in no time you'll end up with little successes like people asking for books to take into their work, orders being passed on from colleagues and relatives, etc, and little orders on the fly.
Know me for who I am, not for who I say I am.
  • I am planning on submitting my orders on line so hopefully I will benefit like your daughter. These posts have all been positive, Thanks for your kind words.

Oh, another tip, don't hesitate to put your phone number with your order forms. I made up a sheet for mum with eight little slips per sheet, basically introducing herself as the rep, saying when she'll collect and also giving the telephone number for contacting her. Quite a few customers have phoned up outside the campaign delivery slot with orders so it saves them having to make time to be in to meet the rep, and my mum the extra journey. They can also phone up if they're interested in products, but don't know exactly what they want, which is what a lot of people at customers' work will do if they don't have a copy of the catalogue - the customer passes on mum's number as the contact person.
Know me for who I am, not for who I say I am.
  • Skin so Soft original bath oil is great. My favourite wintertime treat. Haven't tried it for mozzies yet though. A bottle also lasts for ages and they do BOGOF once in a while :)

Good luck with it - wish we had an avon lady. On second thoughts better not, I'm a sucker for cosmetics and makeup!

My Avon Lady did a couple of parties in her house before Christmas every year and used to sell of samples etc that you could buy on the day as well as order from the Christmas books. They were a huge success.

    I've been Money Tipped!
good luck I like avon but can never find a rep sure you'll do well. Other places to try are the local school staff room/old peoples home anywhere with several staff who may order all together?

we used to get a book where I worked and we all enjoyed reading through it at tea break!

Why not invite some neighbours/mates round for coffee/avon just to get them started?
  • All help appreciated however I don't think moving my post has done the least bit of good, Thanks to all who have replied.
