Agrhh Trick or Treaters just woke my DS up

Why do they need to hammer on the doors so loud and then hammer again for good measure

Plus their mum was with them as they were about 6 yrs old

Do they not realise younger children are in bed

Rant over !!!

    Hello OP,

Quick - make a sign saying, "Young child(ren) sleeping, please don't knock" and stick it on the door NOW!

  • Did you have one of those 'No Trick or Treater' Signs on your door?

I know some may feel they dont need to display them and young trick or treaters should use their psychic ability to determine whether or not households may participate but for the effort of sticking a bit of paper on your door its a good way to avoid having to deal with babies being woken up.

Kids do get over excited and knock a bit too hard but they're just kids having fun.

I had the same thing, despite having a "NO TRICK OR TREATERS PLEASE, NEWBORN BABY SLEEPING!" sign on the door. Grrrrrrrr.

Put a sign on the door, wrap a scarf around your door knocker and turn your hall light out. If you are feeling generous leave some sweets on the step for kids to help themselves to, but don't if you don't have any in.

Otherwise accept that it is 31 October and this is going to happen for one night, but is likely to be winding up in the next half an hour or so, and even if you have a newborn, or a reception class child with school tomorrow its not really that late for them to be woken as a one off, and they won't suffer any ill effects tomorrow.

I love Halloween, and always have stuff in for trick and treaters, though when I take my kids out we have an unbreakable rule that we only knock on doors who have a pumpkin or other Halloween decorations in the window and have therefore indicated they are happy to participate.

Well you failed by incorrectly installing your bear traps. Lol

I will be tying my gate shut when im out of sweets as some little kids race up to the door before the adults get a chance to read it.

OP it was 7.30pm when you posted - there were still loads of little kids out with their parents trick or treating around here then :). Unless you had a prominent sign on your door or window saying No Trick or Treaters, its going to happen.

If you google: Sorry No Trick or Treat poster you'll find some signs you can download, or you can probably call in at your council offices or Police station to get one. Ours goes up every year cos I don't really agree with 'Trick or Treat'.
  • I put a sign up on our front door saying "No Trick or Treaters - Babies Sleeping".....
I don't have to tell them that the youngest person in our house is 19 years old!!:rotfl:

Just put a sign on your door! I took my youngest 2 out, and was respectful of signs, and only knocked at the doors that had pumpkins outside or posters saying welcome!
  • Frankly I cannot understand those parents who allow and encourage their very young children to go knocking at strangers' doors, even under supervision.
We kept most of our lights out but still had 3 knocks. DH went to door and just said "No Thank you, but be careful on the drive which has got wet concrete on it. " Almost true, as we are in the middle of having our drive done and it is highly unsafe today.
Does anyone actually do Tricks if they don't get their Treats?
