Its alright sitting at your keyboard and telling people they are lazy etc but there are practical issues to consider.

Yes, and it works the same way when you are calling the young lazy!
  • Dpn't forget that anyone who has "done all right" in London, unless they have been very far sighted, are likely to be taking part in a 40% tax levy when they go.

I have no sympathy for people in the north who only want to work two days a week.

    Hehe

2 days a week is enough when your house only costs £18.50.

I wouldn't disagree with that. I was simply refuting the claim that to have any sort of career advancement you need to move to London. Because you don't.

Friend is Assistant Head at a Northern school here. She earns perhaps £70K (exact figure is on public record).

There are still good paying jobs up in the North. If you are a biscuit packer or a call centre Tier 1 of course things are going to be tougher.

Its very hard for people to do the north /south transfer.
House prices are much lower in the north and if your'e struggling with a mortgage in the north how on earth are you going to manage to buy in the south especially if you don't have much equity for a deposit.
Its fine doing it the other way round as we did,we sold our house in Virginia Waters and moved to the north east coast.
We bought a house the same quality as we had just sold for a fraction of the cost we sold in Surrey.
I love the north so much I could never move from here now,its a lovely place and unless you've lived here please don't berate it.
The south has a lot lacking, believe me,its realy not such a wonderful place to live on the whole.

Spectacular missing of point here ^
