I opened a Barclays cashminder a few months ago when I first decided I needed to declare bankruptcy. I was granted my order on Monday and briefly spoke to the OR today who said they have no interest in the account. Should I tell barclays I have gone bankrupt or will the OR tell them?
  • You don't need to speak to them, the OR will do it for you. I never heard from barclays about my bankruptcy and they never froze my account, maybe they didn't get the message from the OR because (touch wood) they never blocked my internet banking!

I advise not doing anything not actually required of us, in BR?

Looks like I've lost my barclays mobile banking tried calling but they weren't much use as I'm not a registered user! So will be going into branch, I have little hope of it being reinstated but the text message I received was not very informative and actually implied I had cancelled it!

From my conversation with them recently they have to take away internet/online when bankruptcy is active due to access to credit facilities. I think that the text was probably just a generic one.

Yeah I can understand that but perhaps they should consider amending their texts. Will just give it a mention while amending my statement frequency etc.
  • They definitely should amend the texts. I got one inviting me to take up the online banking offer.
I wasn't sure whether it was just a generic welcome text, or whether they'd changed their minds as I'd given such an amazing performance at my account opening interview :))

I lost mine a few weeks after BR but what I did find out is that you can have weekly paper statements and you can have text alerts for large deposits/withdrawals and I get a weekly text balance so I manage to stay more or less in touch with my account. There are no credit facilities available to basic accounts - my theory has always been that by removing the internet banking they were driving as many BR's as possible into the arms of the Co-op - which is why the co-op had a hissy last year and started refusing to open accounts for undischarged BR's - its all a game...
Roll on the AD date because you can ask to have it reinstated at that point.
