  • I use Max factor lash extension effect- I was actually asked by my mum if I had false lashes on! First time a mascara has delivered. It doesn't smudge.

For eyeliner I've just discovered maybellines gel eyeliner. It comes with a brush and you basically paint it on. When I usually wear eyeliner it ends up by by eyebrows and on the top of my eyelids but this stuff doesn't shift (unless you make the mistake of forgetting its on and rub your eyes really hard- learn from my mistake!) :)

You could also try going to a salon and having your eye lashes dyed (yep, they can do this!) Its odd the first time or so and can feel a bit sore if any gets in your eyes but done well its fine if a little time consuming (about 15 mins). They wont legnthen or curl your lashes the way some mascaras can do but if your having issues enough to stop you wearing any mascara altogether it could be worth a try. Just don't use the special silicon/water (looks like oil/water) eye make up removers as they remove the dye very quickly!

Another idea is the Simple eye makeup remover pen, bit of a pain if you end up having to do this but it works well and would be very easy to swipe under your eye rim every now and then- just be careful where you put it as the lids are prone to falling off in a handbag (or infact any sort of bag) and they then dry out.

Curling may help too if you can get a good technique (youtube this as there is a right and wrong way of doing it and the results are equally good and bad). It could be your mascara is falling where your eyelids rub when you blink or if your lashes touch your lower lid as you blink.

I would recommend using a clear mascara after (and straight after not waiting for it to try or it will clump: do one eye fully before moving over to the next.) as it could help to seal in the colour a bit.

Maxfactor is good and Maybelline turbo lash can be good but the wands on either can be quite chunky if you have smaller eyes or are not so used to using mascaras. They don't flake though which is why they are good. I always found Bojours flaked each time I used them, the black dashes would collect at the bottom of my rimless glasses and be impossible to remove (rimless just means minimal tiny invisible wire like rim which does still exist!) it would totally ruin the look of my glasses each time.

    No way

It always works brilliantly for me - I do use the waterproof one. And it is V cold where I live, no chance of it melting, even in the so-called summer....

I don't rate the Chanel one either, the YSL is a little better but not magic.
The Clarins one isn't great, Estee Lauder nothing special. Lancome are the best of the high end I think. Rubensteine is awful!

That tube one is ok, but I don't like the way it comes off.

    But NOTHING beats Bourjois.

Hate dyeing, no thickening or lengthening with it.

ETA Shu umera eyelash curler is essential too.

I find Lancome mascaras are the worst. They just don't do anything for me. I used one recently that I was given a sample size of. Within half an hour I had massive smudges under my eyes even though I had only put it on my top lashes and hadn't rubbed my eyes. It just goes to show that you need to get samples before you spend out a lot on a mascara!

I have absolutely horrible issues with mascara smudging (though worst ever experience was with a Chanel eyeliner...OMG, *never* again!).

The only mascara I've found that doesn't smudge at all (and I mean at all - and I have a nasty habit of rubbing my eyes) is Blinc Mascara (Blinc being the name of the company). I had to go via their website and ordered a sample sized mascara for very little money, loved it and bought the full sized version. I know you're meant to change mascara's every few months, but mine lasted over a year without drying out/causing any problems with my eyes. Compare that to my Dior Blackout Mascara which smudged and dried out after 2 months (waste of money!).

My only issue with Blinc mascara (and it's a minor one) is that it's a very "every day" mascara - can be worn for a night out, but doesn't have a "wow" impact. For that I wear Givenchy's "Phenomeneyes". They've bought out a waterproof version and OMG I *love* it - adored the original, but it smudged. This one barely smudges at all and makes my eyes look phenomenal.

Blinc, thats the name I was thinking of when I said the tube one.
Yes no real thickening & I don't like the way it removes & it seems to take longer to dry when you are applying it.

Laura Geller's mascara might be worth trying. It can only be removed by using the oil cleansing method though.

Mind you when I buy make up from Debenhams I always ask for a mascara sample and then chuck it after a couple of months. The best mascara I've ever had was Lancome's Keracils, sadly discontinued years ago. Never been able to source another mascara quite as good since.:(

The best eye liner I use is this:

Pricey but lasts ages, easy to apply with the brush and doesn't drag your eyelids. Wouldn't wear anything else.Apply after mascara.

I've just found this thread and so relieved that it's not just me! Bizarrely I found that when I was pregnant and breastfeeding it wasn't a problem, but since I've stopped it's back to the panda eyes within an hour or so of putting it on.

I've tried a load of waterproof mascaras, including benefit, maybelline (colossal volume), max factor (false lash effect) but despite good reports, they've just not worked for me. I'm currently using clinique's high impact curling mascara, which doesn't seem to run (which is great), but doesn't come off easily.

I've bought the bourjois clubbing mascara today and will report back on how well it works for me. Would be interested to know how people get on with the others recommended too :)

Slightly at a tangent, but I use Rapidlash now. I have incredibly sensitive eyes and mascara would be on for about 30 minutes before they were smarting and running (and people asking if I was "all right?"). I trialled this Rapidlash stuff which I was told encourages your lashes to grow. For the first 6 weeks I saw hardly any difference but then wow, eyelashes were much much darker (darker even than when I had them dyed) and they started to curl on their own :) I can now get away without wearing mascara as they are so dark and long - if I do use mascara its the Million Lashes one which for some reason doesnt make my eyes smart for hours. When I use it everyone thinks Ive had lash extensions because my long eyelashes become even longer! You have to keep using the rapidlash though (and its not cheap) as if you dont, a couple of months later and the normal cycle of hair growth means you are back to stubby fair lashes again.

    Just a thought anyway.
