£160 is still less than the repercussions of 3 points on the license surely?

Probably not, if it was the first offence.

Well she only has herself to blame.

Had she stuck to the speed limit in the first place.

Sounds like an expensive lesson, I do hope she learns from it.

LA lot of insurance companies ask you to declare if you have had any conviction, have any conviction pending or attended a police speed awareness course in the last 5 years.
So, they are on to it for their ounce of blood

The point of speed awareness cources is that is not a conviction.
Can you name the insurance companies that ask for attendance at speed awareness courses.
  • I must admit, I've never seen wording specifying a speed awareness course, going through several different comparison sites + direct line + aviva etc.
  • You are meant to slow down before you reach the speed limit sign. Not after you have gone past it.

Thank you, the knowledge that you've just imparted is an immense comfort. Have you ever thought of joining the clergy? Sorry to start descending in to sarcasm, but I don't understand people who have just turned this in to a moralistic brow beating. If you've got nothing better to do, perhaps you should find something (like joining the aforementioned priesthood!)

I've not heard of this or seen details on the speed awareness course requested by an insurance company. (not sure how they could check up?)

Out of interest can you provide any links?

I would just re do if she can not get them to let her off due to the accident. Father in law recently got snapped doing 34 in a 30 and chose the points as couldn't afford time off work and when he renewed his insurance went up by 50 quid a month so over the year that's an extra 600! That was his first set of points too. It may be different for your partner as its different rules with every insurer.

Everything will be ok in the end, and if it isn't ok then it isn't the end :)
  • Is there an appeals procedure you could use, maybe write to the head honcho setting out the situation, you have nothing to lose bar the price of a postage stamp.

Whatever the result of that i'd still repay and retake the course, it's so damned easy to get snapped by a camera or make a silly mistake over the course of the next 3 years, then with 6 points or more it will be worrying.

Ignore the jibes of the perfect and feel sorry for those who have to live with them, for they are the true saints..;).
