Ha ha white sapphire. now we will all be singing it. Nickki, we never go in, the queue in Harrogate is always enormous. We always get treats though because the staff get the stuff they don't sell at really low prices. They also own Yorkshire tea and taylors coffee, so we are never short!
Jemb, where do you buy it?

I think so too. I make Christmas cakes and have to charge £20. They are average size but have soooo much fruit in I hardly make anything! Megan

but homemade do always cost more because you don't get the bulk buy discounts, and you can have them made to taste (my Oh can't have anything with nuts in - I on the other hand LOVE nuts, but have to have whear free!)

i'm always tempted to try and make a christmas cake - but i never remember early enough. the one thing i do remember from school is that you have to make them very early and leave them to stand.....

You don't have to - some you can make a few days before. I think Kirstie Alsopp does one which you can do close to Christmas. The one I make is better for having been made some time in advance and watered with alcohol. The marzipan, icing, ribbon and wrapping all add up too. I haven't offered to do any this year, I figured I have enough to do! So I made one for us and one for my parents for Christmas day.
I also have a fab mince pie recipe, I made some for our friends do on Sunday and made the mistake of leaving some at home. Fatty land here I come.

You have to know your limits (and when to say no) - so good on you for realising, and acting on that!
I can't make anything this year, but definitely am going to give it a try next year!

My OH makes mince pies, and makes his own mince even (his nanna's recipe) but he doesn't make wheat free ones so i can't eat them....

If we can't overindulge at Xmas (& weddings!), when can we! I'm trying not to dwell on the 5lb i've already put on and just keep telling myself i'll worry about it all on 1st January, and start a strict diet on Monday 2nd January :rotfl:

I am hoping to just maintain weight over Christmas. Luckily my birthday comes very soon too, so all 'naughty' times of the year out of the way in one go! I have stopped going to Slimming World as I don't see the point in giving them a fiver each week to tell me I have gained/maintained. I will start again after New Year if I have to, but in the mean time I will try and get to Boots and weigh myself there. Our scales are useless - I can gain 5lbs just by moving them around the floor!

Christmas update - I hope you all had a really wonderful Christmas? I did, despite the fact that we are getting married in March, we had never 'officially' got engaged. I wasn't bothered, it was something we both wanted and I was happy to have a blingy wedding ring. but my OH totally surprised me with a trail around the house and an engagement ring in a box with 'Will you marry me' written on a note on it!!

It is gorgeous, compliments my wedding ring and is the right size. Apparently he has been planning for weeks now as he didn't think it was right for me to have no engement ring.

Proof there is still romance left in him!
