I think the ideals behind TA have become flawed and abused overtime. I've stayed in a good few B&B's, Guest Houses & Hotels and I don't feel qualified enough to make comments re the abilty, standards etc of any of these establishments in print (which is what TA is). I'll write in the guest book and if I do encounter problems that impact on my stay then I'll say so to whoever is responsible at the time and equally if I have had a great time I'll say so. We must give an opportunity for issues (real or imagined) to be corrected there and then. Thats how businesses improve, not by reading rubbish on an unattributable website. To hide behind a cloak of anonymity and post unqualified comments (good or bad) is just discorteous and cowardly. It also betrays a gross lack of understanding of the economics that underpin any establishment (big or small). The "critics" clearly had no expertise beyond their own blinkered world. To say that they were performing a duty/service for possible future visitors is surely pompous claptrap. Key board warriors? I don't think so!0

Im watching it now, some of these people, both owners and reviewers are crazy.
That supermarket guy is a nutcase - I cant believe he seriously changes his bed sheets at home every night!!
But then that owner was sl**gging off customers before theyd even got to his door and wont stop talking to them whilst they are eating. I certainly wouldnt stay there after seeing this show. His wife is pretty horrible too. Shes crying about the review the woman gave her, but then calling her a bit**! they certainly wont be 'on their side' after watching this show!
I write and read reviews on tripadvisor. I only come across dodgy ones every now and again, and its pretty easy to ignore the daft ones where people complain over nothing.0

Sorry but I don`t trust Tripadvisor anymore. Too many blatant false reviews on hotels and restaurants. I find the reviews on booking.com much more helpful and truthful0

Whatever the shows Producers were or were not trying to achieve, what the show did manage to achieve was to highlight that some hoteliers are rude/different/strange/interesting and that all of the reviewers featured were numpties of varying severity.Did anyone else find it odd that the programme was trying to paint reviewers in such a light they were ruining small businesses - Yet, the show probably did more to ruin those businesses than Trip Advisor ever could.
If that Stuart Wilson (stu.bec) bloke is a mature student then Lord knows what or where he is studying as he came across as terribly aggressive, negative, poorly educated and every second word that came out of his mouth was a profanity!!!
All in all I suspect the shows Producers achieved their aim, albeit too late for the reviewers who made fools of themselves. The MSE Dictionary The MSE Dictionary

i read tripadvisor reviews and they help me choose my holidays i use it for guidance, but there are usually good and bad reviews, i usually read between the lines with reviews as sometimes it seems some people go on holiday to look for faults. there is currently a thread running on trip advisor with stuart saying the programme was heavily edited and his actual review posted before the programme was aired is nothing like how he was portrayed to be on the programme

It's kind of ironic isn't it?
The TV producers allegedly misrepresenting someone who has allegedly misrepresented a hotel.:rotfl:
He was naive at best to even think that such a programme would offer a fair representation of TA or indeed their reviewers.0

Too right........I think the guy himself modelled himself on Basil which hardly did him any favours - especially when the fool was trying to even sound like him when swearing!
I think the defining moment was when he suggested he could determine what type of person the 'reviewer' would be by the model of car they arrive in.
 What an idiot!0

Did anyone recognise who Stu.Bec was ? I'm fairly sure it was the infamous 'stuurl' / 'kenny powers' / 'mr lahey' from these very forums.
I have a feeling you are right - that was his name, and if you look at some of his reviews he mentions travelling with two children. Brilliant! 0 0
