Have you ever checked out the cost of new tyres or are you one of those who would take a risk with buying secondhand tyres?

While not disagreeing with you, as it is a moneysaving website, I bought my tyres from mytyres, but bought a second hand set of rims from ebay for £20, and was charged a tenner each to put them on.
(Two actually came with decent tyres, so I have to say yes, I also used them and used two of my own rims that were ready for replacement)

I did have a damn good look around for secondhand rims but without any luck. So buying from Mytyre was the next best option. It would have cost me £300 just for the tyres on their own so paying £116 for new rims and the delivery charge (£9.90 per wheel:eek:) hasn't worked out too bad. It was certainly a big saving on what the wheels and tyres would have cost me from a VW dealer.

By that we can say that whenever you buy a car that isn't brand new; you immediately replace all 5 tyres?

I did all the reading up after VW sent me an email regarding their hotel4tyres deal.

Anyway in the end I went to mytyres and bought 4 Continental TS830s on steel rims for £416 for my Golf.

    Funny that...

    Not a very intelligent response.

Funny that you ended up going the same route that I did?

correct. you didn't give an intelligent response.
A second hand car comes with second hand wheels, you don't know the history of them; whether they were bought new, part worn, remoulds of if they've had numerous punctures repaired.

If you don't replace them when you buy a second hand, you're 'risking' the same as what you accused Edgasket of.

Look again you will see I asked a question, I didn't give a response. There is a difference.

You have a better chance with tyres that are already fitted to a car than some that have been fitted and removed.
If you don't replace them when you buy a second hand, you're 'risking' the same as what you accused Edgasket of.

Not at all, you are buying a complete vehicle which if bought from a dealer you have some comeback with. Much more so than if you have bought some used tyres on their own.

    See above.

I had a full set of second hand winter tyres fitted and they were fantastic value.

Purchased via ebay but a local garage. Checked them before he fitted them and they had 6mm of tread no repairs, no damage, looked mint condition.

£100 quid for all four, fitted and balanced - Goodyear ultragrip 7+ in 195/65/15, normally set you back £75 ish each!

Just stating that after much research I ended up getting exactly the same thing as you.

The funny that was a response to those who called it into question.
