Perhaps you could send a message to the people on the friends list of the fake profile. You never know if they've been sending messages to discredit you.
If you're in contact with anyone that he's friends with perhaps ask if they can see their mobile number and/or email address. It might help tracking down who is it is but then again it's all to easy to use fake details.
I've seen stuff happen like that on Facebook before, someone set up a fake profile of a work mate. Also someone I went to school with apparently added me as a friend but their first name had been set as "Dogbreath". Very childish.0 -
Have you a friend you trust on Facebook, that could add the fake you and strike up a conversation with them (pretending they don't know it's a fake you) and see what happens from there?0

I am sorry.. why not? if there is even the smallest chance that it could be the actual 'stalker' from the past then I think I would like the police aware now and not later down the line when he is folllowing my daughter home from college or stealing our pets... if its just some idiot prankster with nothing better to do then at least I will have some sort of peace of mind and so will my 17year old who has barely left my side all day since we became aware of this... I know the police are unlikely to be able do anything other than register the complaint and then be able to act faster if anything escalates in the future and that is a small comfort at the moment... and I will take that however small at the moment0 -

the person had 'friended' my daughters boyfriend yesterday but after I messaged the fake profile they must have assumed it was him that contacted me about it as they have blocked him now and the other friends of mine that had been conned into thinking it was me have deleted and blocked...
the people on the fake friends list are people I dont know all but a few from my childhood that had listed the same school as mine..
I just wish for sure I knew who it was doing this as I cant think of anyone that would hate me that much! I am a quiet private person and this is the nly place I talk to 'strangers' online0 -

Nobody has to hate you to do it. but your best option isn't to message them but to have them add somebody who can tell you what activity is going on with the account.
If there's something that could be deemed as criminal then you can go to the police but if they've just got a Facebook account in your name and not doing any harm with it, it'll more than likely be a civil matter and you need to speak to Facebook.
but don't go running straight to Facebook asking them to close it as you won't achieve anything.0 -

OP, at worst it's a (albeit complex) scam or prank but my challenge to that is why go to so much trouble if there isn't more to it? you don't lose anything to highlight it to the police and the worst they can say is to advise you on what to do. You lose nothing in calling the local station.
PS I certainly wouldn't engage with them without getting police advice first.0 -

fortunately my local police are more understanding given the previous stalking case and the possibility that it may be the same person0 -
I really hope you get this situation sorted xx0

That is really quite scary! I hope you manage to sort it out soon! I would be furious!0
