I'm trying to find a company that will cover cash presents but the policies don't seem that good, I'll keep looking :)

    Hotel safe?

We took out wedding insurance. Then 2 weeks before the wedding our son was diagnosed with a brain tumour and the wedding had to be cancelled. Thank goodness for the insurance!

That's why we have it. You never know what might happen other than suppliers going bust! Hope your son has recovered xxxxx

Thank you. 2 years after the diagnosis, after all his treatment and aged 4 years old, he walked his mum down the aisle at our re-organised wedding. Its now another 3 years on from then and he's doing great.

I am still trying to decide of wedding insurance is worth it (and i work in the insurance industry!!).

What are peoples thoughts on paying or things by credit card and being covered by section 75 should a shop go bust etc? Am I missing something is there more to insurance than what the section 75 would pay back on?

Any advice would be much appreciated - I was all set to by it no questions asked when a friend of mine who is getting married said she wasn't going to bother? I do think it is a small amount of money (in comparison) for BIG piece of mind but now feel maybe i could spend that elsewhere... Am i being stupid? oh decisions decisions!!!

    Thanks everyone! x

Insurance covers more than just the suppliers going bust though which sec 75 will not cover! Such as the example already mentioned, but lets say if the event has to be canclled due to bad weather (such as snow like some last year), contacts to arrange replacment services quickly.

I also work in the insurance industry (Although a different sector) and I really do think for the small amount that it costs its worth it!
  • Thanks all.. has reassured me. I won't risk it!! :)

lovinituk so glad to hear your son is well and was able to join in the fun of the day.

I've phoned the hotel and they have a big safe to put guest items in, he said everything can be put in a stapled envelope which would be signed by me and left in the safe until we needed it.

Does that sound ok? Hopefully they would check that the right person is collecting it and not just some random person asking for it or maybe I worry too much lol

That's probably what we're going to do, not sure really. But we have exclusive use of our venue all day and night and I trust all our guests!! It's just the staff we need to worry about I guess. :o

We will be getting cash as gifts from quite a few guests, I would be worried about keeping it all on the premises actually. Also, OH wants to go on honeymoon first thing on the Monday morning but shouldn't we at least bank all the money/cheques that we get before we go?

I was wondering about this, I've decided that I'm going to give my mum any cash gifts, she has a safe that she can keep them in and we can bank everything when we get back.

Its a lovely family run restaurant/hotel and his wife and children also work there. They have been doing weddings for over 20years and I know friends of friends/family that have got married there and eveything ran very smoothly :D
I'm sure were not the only wedding they have had that will be getting cash in cards and need a safe place to store it. I'll just make sure I collect it all out the safe as soon as the wedding is over :rotfl:

  • We took our cards to the room at about 11pm, and also made sure that the post box was on a table right next to the dance floor - so someone wouldn't be able to just walk up and take it. A lot of our guests were worried about this too - so they had given cheques instead of cash anyway. We banked everything before going on honeymoon.

Didn't have to use our insurance, but think it is as important as the cake! Lots of companies are struggling, plus illness cover is important.
