I think it depends on the policy but a lot will only cover things after the insurance is taken out. Ours only covers stuff taken out after the policy was in place but if we had booked things and paid a deposit before we took it out I think only the deposit would have been classed as 'outside' the policy. Our insurance was the first thing we booked just to be on the safe side.
  • I've emailed e and l cause so far we have only paid deposits for church, reception and chair covers. We still need to pay the full balances and book dj, photographer, centre pieces etc so I'll see what they say. We won't be paying the full amount until 2012/2013 and booking things next year though

  • We got ours through Debenhams and I'm glad we did, hopefully it's going to pay out a fair bit of money that we can't afford to loose. Tbh I only got it because I got it through Quidco so it only cost me about £15 in the end, but it's been a life saver. They have been very helpful so far, all the staff I dealt with have been lovely (nothing like Axa Travel Insurance, grr) but I will see how pleased I am depending on how much they pay out!
Obviously I would rather not have had to use it, but would definitely reccommend it.

Does anyone know a company that will cover cash presents? Were asking for donation to our honeymoon so trying to see if cash is covered. I looked with e and l but they dont cover it. I also asked and they won't cover venue deposits already paid before the policy is taken out but everything else can be covered if you book them now or after policy.
I've found a few companies but they only offer up to about £200 so doesn't seem worth it? Would it be better to ask people for cheques in our name or is that too cheeky? Not sure which is best?

Looks like ecclesiastical will cover up to £1000 in cash gifts. I imagine they're have to be forcibly taken before the policy paid out ... no good just leaving them in the function room! :D

  • I am still trying to decide of wedding insurance is worth it (and i work in the insurance industry!!).

What are peoples thoughts on paying or things by credit card and being covered by section 75 should a shop go bust etc? Am I missing something is there more to insurance than what the section 75 would pay back on?

Any advice would be much appreciated - I was all set to by it no questions asked when a friend of mine who is getting married said she wasn't going to bother? I do think it is a small amount of money (in comparison) for BIG piece of mind but now feel maybe i could spend that elsewhere... Am i being stupid? oh decisions decisions!!!

    Thanks everyone! x

We took out wedding insurance. Then 2 weeks before the wedding our son was diagnosed with a brain tumour and the wedding had to be cancelled. Thank goodness for the insurance!
