Older not wiser - researching an article and answering a post on a forum are poles apart surely? By the way I'm working on an article on Internet forums and guess which one will be earmarked as the most hostile and occasionally unhelpful.....Bob The Job will be getting a special mention.

Hi In light of what youve mentioned here it reminded me of an article i read in the December issue of Glamour last year.
It touched on internet forums and it said that you were a lot more likely to get abuse on a forum if you have a female user name.
I did start a thread about it on the Marriages board last year.
If you click on my username you might be able to find it.
From what i recall you might find some of the responses interesting as well.

that doesnt surprise me in the least , I have noticed the ''male'' posters seem to be able to get away with a lot more , but then also like all forums there can be a clique .

Its always best not to get personally / emotionally involved in what is posted

You're absolutely right. There has been quite a bit of research on this. Sadly, I work with men who are equally as childish. They can't stand the fact I am paid far more and am in a more superior position.

I'm of the opinion that users who post rows of repetative smilies do so because they can't think of anything constructive to post.;)
