I now have a cheque in my posession from Santander! And a lovely letter admitting no fault or wrong-doing, but offering me a goodwill gesture... Riiiiiiigh.

My history: Took a loan out for about £9000 in 2003 at 7%. Made my payments on it, but several times had to take out what i'd paid back in as my money management wasn't the best. Paid the loan off (but didn't close it) in 2006, using a fixed term loan from Natwest at a lower APR. The Natwest loan has since been paid off! I subsequently borrowed against the Cahoot loan again in 2008 to finance a house moving exercise and managed to pay that off in 2010.

What this all means is that i had got rid of the loan before the period when they really started jacking up the rates; the amount i borrowed in 2008 (probably about £1000, can't remember) was obviously at a high enough interest rate compared to the original to warrant a refund, however, as they've sent me a cheque for £432. Nice result!

Its really worth a shot - i sent them an email to the ceo address in the first post here. Would have had the cheque a lot sooner if they'd paid attention to what i said my current address was, too. All communications over email, nice and easy.
Well done :j How long did it actually take? I sent my email yesterday evening, and just waiting now.

I contacted them via their complaints form on 12th December following the link on here and received a email receipt on 13th December from Santander Customer Services customerservices@santander.co.uk saying "This is a receipt to let you know we've received your message, and we'll reply as soon as we can." etc

I sent the initial email to them on the 23rd November; i got an acknowledgement the next day and a follow up email asking for my address history on the 25th.

They apparently sent a cheque out with a letter on the 3rd, but to the address they had on their system, not the one i told them was my current one... I chased them up last friday and they resent the cheque on monday, received tuesday.

Just got to find time to get to the bank; which conveniently opens the same hours i'm at work.... Roll on next week when i'm on my Xmas holidays!

Happy Bunny - could you PM me a copy of your letter too? I took a flexible loan out with Cahoot in 2002 and closed it in mid-2009. I'm not sure if I'll get anything but nothing ventured, nothing gained!

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi

Just a quick update on my situation.

I emailed CS on 6th december with my letters (one for me, one for hubby)

I received an automated response the same day and then another response the other day saying, we are looking into your complaint and will respond soon.

Should I have addressed mine to the CEO???

Worried we may not get anything back now :(

I wouldn't be concerned yet. Mine took about 10 days and that seems to be pretty quick compared to others on here. The complaint is forwarded to complaints by CEO office anyway so it will be responded to.

  • I sent an e-mail to the ceo address this morning. Thanks to Happy Bunny for help with the wording!

I had a Cahoot flexible loan between July 2002 and July 2009 at which point I think I closed the facility.

I'll post updates here when (and if!) I get them.
