What rules does my mother make me live by?

How much money is my mum giving me each week/month?

Seriously, since you know my life better than me answer the above questions.

As it is many on here both bull and bear can see exactly why I am doing what I am doing and it makes sense.

Anyway I just said I may be becoming a 'real man' sooner surely you should be happy for me?

Percy, I don't think many have a problem with people who live with their parents at a later age as long as they pay their way.

Not only need the money given include rent for room but also share of council tax, energy bills, wear and tear on washing machines etc.

The majority of people living with parents do not pay enough to cover this and are effectively 'sponging' off their parents. No doubt they will see it as their parents 'helping them save'.

Apologies if you do pay your way however.

Well said. This is precisely what everyone has been trying to explain to him and others shirking their responsibilities and living out of their parents pockets. To the good rightminded of us it is utterly shameful that someone approaching 30 leeches off their parents.

Well in short I do pay approximately 1/3 of the bills excluding the mortgage but there is no figure for room rental, however I do give more than it costs to keep me so they are better off while I am still here.

I suppose to me if the margins it costs are covered then there isn't a subsidy going just parents not profiteering out of there children.

Most parents can see its much harder for there children to get what they had, so is it wrong to help there own flesh and blood if all are happy with the arrangement?

I really don't see why some people are so obsessed with HPC, I think prices should drop and have never been near the thing.

On other news I may be buying a house sooner than expected.

To be honest, you probably wouldn't fit in on HPC as you have a girlfriend.

You think your parents are no worse off. However they have lost the usage of a room. Perhaps without you there they might downsize and have a lower mortgage payment. Also they have lost a certain amount of freedom.

If you are able to save 13000 in a year now that you have decided to start saving what on earth have you been up to until now. Was it by chance - Splurging your money on cheap consumables whilst sponging off mummys teat.

I will give you the use of the room, I have asked what they will do with my room when I move out and it seems it will be nothing as such will just be a spare bedroom for visits (or when my brother and his other half fall out... again), with that there is no immediate plans to downsize once I am out, but yes I can see some in my situation maybe blocking such things, but I am not.

Up until now I have been paying for my education + car + many years rip off car insurance + chasing women (thank god I found the right one eventually) and yes some other consumables to keep me entertained over the years but overall I haven't wasted a great amount. In short a built up debts when normal living was more than I was earning and paid it back once my education started paying back and I was earning more than needed for a normal life. I will add I have never owned a single product made by apple.

My parents have gained things while I have lived here, they get free internet access aswell as free tech support (they are always breaking/crashing computers) aswell as getting them cheaper deals on banking/insurance/utilities as I have been sorting all this for them for many years. I am actually there financial advisor and take care of most of the finances for them.
