DWP Insist We Are Partners!

  • We live in a two bedroomed, which is why we took the property.

My point is, they say their 'records' show that she lives with a partner and they have confirmed on the phone it has nothing to do with the claim form, other than she hasn't filled in the 'partner' section. When she last claimed two years ago, we were deemed not to be partners, so something has happened since.

The form states in the 'Other people in your household' section that you must include 'friends' which we are as well as Joint Tenants. It says do not include anyone who shares a hall, bathroom or toilet. However we share a Kitchen and a Living Room so their form includes us as the same household.

MP's office replied in 26 minutes. Good service as always.

  • The last thing any local government employee wants is some local politico bright eyed and bushy tailed peering over their shoulder trying to work out where they went wrong :)

Yes, they hate it, especially when they are as pro-active as my local MP.

I've contacted my Landlord's Welfare Benefits officer and will see what she says. Everyone else i've asked away from this forum says it's been filled in correctly, so she's going to know more than most, so shall await her response.

They would automatically assume that people of the same sex would not be involved as a couple. They are extremely narrow minded people.

My female lodger was questioned about her relationship with me when she claimed HB ;) In her case they sent a letter addressed to me with a list of 15 questions... I had to write back to them with my replies within a few days (the deadline was incredibly short). They accepted my answers and authorised her claim.

She doesn't have 15 questions, just the request to fill in the 'Your Partner' section on the form, which she can't, as she doesn't have one.

Everything is being sent to them this afternoon, so we'll see what happens. No doubt some sourface will visit us again.
  • They also do things like knock on the door next door and ask them if you are a couple, as well as inspections etc.

We don't even know the neighbours :o

We have a big support base and it helped last time. Time will tell.

Yep, so I gather. The 15 questions came after my lodger spent some time in the LA's offices trying to sort her claim out. It may be the next step after you speak to them, or it may not.

I was really trying to point out that not all LA's are fixated on heterosexual partnerships ;)

I see that now :D I got so caught up in my email and letter writing, I didn't look to see what you had quoted or see that you were a lady :o

You are a first for me, as nobody else I know that has shared of the same sex, has ever been questioned.

Regardless, I think i've done everything now and shall await any responses from those I have contacted.

:rotfl:Again, not where I really want to be doing.

It does beg the question, if we were both the same gender, would they even look at this? Even if we were both the same gender and gay?

    Of course they would.
