The splinters were quite big and I know that some come out on their own, but I didn't want to take the risk of them going deeper. He was very good about it and perked up when I gave him a little mini egg for being so good. I am sure that there will be many more to come!0 -
DH's car had an MOT yesterday, so that set us back by £127. This was funded from my Car Repairs/Replacement Savings 'pot' so I need to build this up again.
Moved some money around between accounts and added to Savings. Total Mortgage Overpayments made so far this month: £320. I have also redeemed and received £34 from survey/cashback sites.
Some good news on DH's job - he is working 12 hours overtime tomorrow and as of Tuesday he will be working in a local Plant (as they needed 5 people to move location). He is still employed by an Agency but there is the possibility of him being taken on by the company itself. He won't know what shift pattern he is working until tomorrow but as the Plant is local he will be travelling 76 miles less a day! Which is going to save a lot of fuel and travelling time. He will also be able to see more of the boys during the week.
DS2 has a medical appointment this week where he will be assessed for compression stockings, bandages and lymphatic massage. It has been a long process as he is almost 20 months old but at least he is now been assessed for treatment.
I've not been feeling well this past week - still feeling run down and ended up in bed this afternoon as I was aching and feeling cold. Now that DH will be working closer to home I hope that I can start my weekday evening walks again (when I feel up to it) as I have really missed going.0 -

Hi SD, sorry to hear you are under the weather. Hopefully you will be feeling better this morning.
Excellent news re your husband. That's a huge reduction in travelling time and this fuel. It will be great when they offer him a permanent role - fingers crossed.

Hello,
You are doing incredibly well. £8000 in a year is a real achievement, and it would have been very easy for you, with a busy life and a young family, to just spend that and not even notice the benefit but you have seen further and saved it whilst still having a great family life. Very very well done!
SquirrelPaid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -

Thanks all for all the comments. I just wish (like most people) that I had started this journey a few years earlier.
It would be amazing if I manage to pay £8,000 off the mortgage by the end of the year. I suppose that we could spend the money that I overpay, but as I keep money aside for doing fun things as a family so that the children don't miss out on anything, it may as well go to good use.
DH is being transferred to the local Plant tomorrow and will have another week of training/induction. He will still be employed as an Agency worker, but at least there is a better chance of him being taken on by the Company now that he has changed location.
If I feel better, I will resume my evening walks tomorrow as I've really missed going as it not only keeps me fit but lets me de-stress and clear my mind.0 -
DS2 had a medical appointment today and it went well
.
He is too young at the moment to have compression stockings as his lymphatic system is still developing so he will have to wait until the Autumn or next year when he is 3 years old. He needs to increase the movement in his feet and ankles first as once he has compression stockings these need to be worn everyday for life. However, he is now wearing Kinesiology tape on the tops of his feet daily to help reduce the swelling and I have been shown how to do simple daily manual lymphatic drainage massage/techniques at home on his feet and ankles.
The Specialist said that she is confident that his swelling will start to reduce in the next couple of days using the tape. The swelling and condition is never going to go, but we now have a lifetime service in place for DS2 and a great team of staff to help and support us to manage his condition. We will be going back to the clinic for our next appointment in 10 weeks time.MFW side of things:-
