2 faulty laptops

I bought a laptop from PC World some weeks ago and it was faulty from delivery (start up problems with blue screen). This was replaced last week with a different make and model and this also has some start up problems as well as launching a browser for no reason. This will now also have to be sent back.

Both were refurbished machines.

Any advice? PC World haven't yet supplied a properly working machine.

Maybe not next time, but it's too late for this one ...
  • I know that if you receive a item you should be allowed to have a refund so that you are in the same position as before.

I would assume that you should be therefore entitled in your position.
  • Get your money back and go buy somewhere else.

A refurbished product is often one that has been returned as faulty. Often no fault was found on a quick test and so it's sold again, best to avoid in my book.

Not necessarily - a lot of the "refurbished" computers that PC World etc sell are ones returned under the DSR's cooling off period.

I bought a laptop from them (Acer 4820T), it arrived looking brand new (even had the little sticky labels on the back / inside etc)... ran it through the system at work, it'd never been repaired at all (or even entered the repair workshop), nothing wrong with it at all.

EDIT - These legally cannot be sold "as new", but most places don't like selling them "second hand" so call them refurbished or ex-display (in the case of eBuyer).
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

i don't really want my money back because it was a good buy. i can't buy the same for the price paid. all i'm asking is for them to replace it like for like.

Well you have two options, either take a refund (which is all the retailer is obliged to give) or look online at their clearence/refurb section and pick another one, if there are none at the same price you can pay the difference.

Would help if you said what the laptops you had were.

I'm looking for the third option, a replacement laptop of equal spec or higher spec regardless of cost. This would mean they fulfill their contract. If they cannot do this, I have lost a bargain.

    Good luck with that.
