Woodburners, installation and conflicting advice!

I am in a similar situation to the OP. Looking to get a woodburner (Esse 125) fitting in our new house (which is currently building site), I can't find a local installer for love nor money locally to even come and quote for fitting. So I have been reading up and got some quotes for materials and I am going to do it myself. Just found a roof ladder extension for my ladder so I don't need scaffolding.
Doing it myself will obviously save money but I want to make sure I do it right.
HETAS idiots cheating themselves out of cash again! :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
I rather object to that0

We are experiencing the same problem, quoted £1900 from one hetas reg installer but they wanted us to buy their stove as well which we don't want. Very difficult to find anyone else local. My husband can't get up on our roof as he has a bad back and our roof is really high (old victorian terrace).
I think they know that there aren't many installers out there and can charge what they like!0 -
have you rung around any builders?
There are plenty of builders about who are perfectly capable of fitting a stove0 -
Have you tried stoves on line? They sell the stoves and have authorised fitters you can contact? Have you rung any sweeps in the area who can either do the job or know a man who could?
There are more installers now than ever before actually but at this time of year we can be booked up 12 weeks in advance. If you wanted it done from May to September you could have it done in 2 or 3 weeks and at a lower price. Its supply and demand Im afraid.0 -
No haven't tried builders yet, going to do that this week and have another look at stove installers. Thanks.0

Got a builder to finally come out, he's coming tomorrow night. Everyone is really busy so I'm lucky to get him to come. Got a number for another one today off a friend so if this one doesn't show I can call him.
We took our marble fire surround out yesterday so thats a start! Phew it was heavy....I think my husband forgets I'm only 5ft and 7 stone! LOL0 -
Traditionally this is the hardest and most expensive time of year to get a stove installed. Its one of those jobs that should be done in the hight of the summer0
-
It probably is but I can't spend another winter freezing like last year. Plus I didn't have enough money to get it done any sooner.0

We want to fit ours ourselves but are struggling also to find anyone to sign it off.If you dont get it signed off, is it such a big deal? If you sell your house and you don't have the paperwork then surely you just tell them and then they can make up their minds.0
