i do not condone that particular bailiff for his actions-- they were un-acceptable in 90% of his actions and was rightly sacked........ but in the womans case by not doing what she should of done i.e. informing the dvla-- what other action could of been taken??? ok let her off the bailiffs charges but then fine her £1000 for failure to disclose to the dvlc-- she made her bed etc etc

I strongly suspect she was a "won't pay" rather than a "can't pay". Which doesn't excuse being treated poorly.

footnote-- i am a fully licenced and certified bailiff-- and have been for 10 years-- only disreptable companys pay via commision-- i am not paid by commision.. i alwyas follow the codes and conducts laid down-- over half of my cases get sent back for vunerable/un-able to pay-circumstances/ death of debtor reasons.. i have on about 50% of the remaining 50% of cases accepted payment plans of round about £5/week or less

i have learned from the producers that they had 20 undercover operatives placed to get the footage for the program-- where are the other 19 undercovers secret footage???????? not good enough for sensationlism journalism i suspect

This is certainly true but remember this was a program about bad bailiffs (even if they ended up only focussing on one, and you do have to wonder why), not "bad debtors".

Clearly though, that guy's behaviour was bad enough. In any industry you will have some employees who are better than others, but he wasn't so much "rogue" as totally, completely off the rails.

I do put a lot of the blame in companies that pay their staff for a job like this on commission then put pressure on the bailiff to charge as many fees as possible and the office staff to try and find creative ways to make files eligible for fee generation. You may be better than that... I'd like to think I was better than that but we both know it goes on.

The way I understood the MP's daughters tale was she had informed DVLA of the new address for 2 cars and they had only changed the address on 1 car. She then incurred a parking fine and the paperwork was going to the old address, so she knew nothing about it. Then the bailiffs got involved and tracked her to the new address and treated her rather shoddily.

I have been on the recieving end of a bailiff like Mr Boast and he terrified the beejeezus out of me. I didn't complain to the company about his behaviour because I wasn't aware that I could and he made me feel like I was in the wrong and couldn't do a thing about it. Even the Police wouldn't help me and I was classed a venereble (just come out of hospital after 4 weeks with my premature baby.) I suspect that many people on the recieving end of Mr Boast's threats weren't aware they could complain.

Did anyone notice the amount of times they banged home the name of the baliff and the company?

Seemed a bit one sided... Would have been good to see more of the debtors side of things also...

Also there was no coverage of the other people the baliff visited, considering there were umpteen per day. I assume all the other visits were ok.
  • Dont much like bailiffs at the best of times, but this just looked like a 'bad apple'. Quite a few times he made it clear 'Head Office' wouldnt have been happy etc.

I dont think a company can be responsible for the actions of an employee if they are acting in a way the company do not approve or endorse. For example, many cases of call centre fraud take place each and every day, but are these companies shut down because an employee is a criminal?

    I actually expected far worse!

no just dealing with far too many theft investigations
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • From my experience most definitely. Court bailiffs I've dealt with have been wonderful!
You are absolutely right. I had dealing with court bailiffs when I was a policeman. They are angels compared to certificated bailiffs.
