Npower at it again!

  • I just found the info: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1094659690,55819, I'm still a bit new and had read the best buy article, but missed the money tips item. So much information - so little time!
  • I am with Npower and have just applied this morning for the switch to Powergen's online account tarrifs which seem a great deal cheaper even before the 13% hike from npower.
I am sure all the other companies will follow suit with B.Gas and Npower and put their prices up but shurely the more competitive ones will remain competitive?

do you think this is a bad move? or should i go along with the move to Powergen?? ???
  • I was about to do similar, but plan to take Martin's advice and wait a while.

Most of the internet based switching sites in Martin's article point me toward TelecomPlus, but the savings quoted vary from £65 to £220! over my current combined annual bill of about £800. Maybe it is because these savings engines are at different stages of being updated with the new pricing information.
  • powergen now have my bank details etc.. :'( how easy is it for me to cancel??
  • Not sure - I suggest you phone them, but read the T&Cs first on what you signed. I had a quick look on their website and could not see any lock-in period, if you are not locked in you could just let it all happen anyway and change again in a few months if you can stand the hassle! Did you sign on the doorstep - regulators often build cooling off periods for agreements made in the customer's own home into the code of practice?

Maybe some of the more experianced forum users will know more about the Powergen, and enrgy supply in general, T&Cs?

@Alan I think they were playing a game of chicken. I won't elaborate on the rules. My guess is that they can afford to put up their prices as they were second to do so after British Gas (Aka Centrica).

I think you will find that a lot (if not most) of the energy suppliers were waiting for BG to put their prices up before they made their move so as to use BG as their yardstick.

I am with Powergen and will wait for the dust to settle (possibly another month), i.e. all the other providers to decide on their increases, before using Uswitch to see who's cheapest.

They were third, London Energy are putting up their prices from Monday. Come to think of it, can they do that? I only got the letter at the weekend - that's only 7 days notice!

    Sorry saver smurf.
I read about London Energy on a new poster yesterday. It gave no details but it did mention a promise. I guess no publicity is good publicity when price rises are concerned.

  • That's why NPower's Bill issued 24 July got red letter on 11 August, Threatening on 17 August. Paid on 21st August. Did they want my money before fleecing us all for more money?

I will watch and wait to see if they are commited to their con-sumers or not. Until then, I think they should be on notice from MSEs.

PS. Remember it has been set law that you have 28 days to settle accounts.

My Accountant asked me yesterday why I had not had an electric bill from Npower this year???
Phoned them today, after a wait of 15mins got thru and was told that the Jan bill had been cancelled by Npower, and a bill issued in May had been cancelled by the system...
They are going to send me a new bill, no doubt my accountant will be sending his bill also, so how much should I ask for in compensation for thier incompetence?
