Pipes rattling - water hammer?

Hi,
javajim.
I, too, find it odd how turning down the stopcock on the incoming main is somehow regarded as a cure all. It's not. All you do is deprive yourself of the full flow of the supply.
You have the choice to turn down the stopcock or fix the real problem, just don't palm off the the 'stopcock' method as the cure ,it isn't.
Any rattles or clanks should be addressed by using a shock arrestor and ,if there are loose pipes , some fixings or lagging to separate pipes.
