We are off topic here as the thread is about banging waste water pipes. If you really want to know Uncle Google will help you or start another thread and we can discuss it there.Perhaps you could enlighten us as to the cause?

A poster has a problem with noisy pipes and I proposed a cure that worked.
You say I was wrong but you (By your own admission) Do not know why.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -

You've got nothing to laugh about. Please read the thread.:rotfl:
No the OP (pledgeX) posted a question about noisy WASTE pipes. For some peculiar reason you confused this with water hammer in SUPPLY pipes and told him to throttle back his stopcock.A poster has a problem with noisy pipes and I proposed a cure that worked.
Another poster (javajim) joined in and said "I've tried what you suggested and it worked" but you seemingly fail to realise it was for a different problem and you seemingly also haven't realised that it was not the OP (pledgeX) who found that your solution stopped his banging it was javajim.
No I didn't say you were wrong. Please show me where I said you were wrong. I said you were treating the symptom not the cause. You say I was wrong
Of course I know why but have no intention of discussing it on a "banging wastepipe" thread. Are you just determined to hijack the thread off to where you want it to go instead of actually proposing something which helps the OP? Want to discuss water hammer? Start a new thread then.but you (By your own admission) Do not know why.
Ha Ha - don't be such a silly girl......By your own admission......

Read the original post again, and not with the benefit of hindsight.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Oh dear:
Waste pipe see?By far the worst noise comes when I drain a full sink full of hot water from the upstairs basin.
QED.I read up on water hammer but I don't think this is the issue here
Waste pipe again.this is not the case in my example above as the noise doesn't come when I turn my tap off, only when I remove the plug.
He was right but it can be very noisy indeed. Still waste pipes.I thought about the hot water coming into contact with the cold pipes may cause expansion/contraction, but the noise just seems too loud for that.
Thermal movement in WASTE pipe.but sometimes I can still hear a bang say once every 15 seconds for several minutes after I finished running the tap/draining.

thanks for the helpful posts, I guess I will have to expose the boxed in pipes and see if they can be better secured and if any are loose etc. Sounds like they will be tricky to get to and even trickier to repair the damage I cause getting to them.
Cheers!0 -
Ahh here we go again then. When all else fails and we have no answer to black and white we will resort to the ad hominem approach.Do your parents know that you accessing the internet unsupervised?
