  • What do you want it to do?

What size of room is it to heat, if it is solely for single room heating?

Those are your only questions left. After that just get something that looks nice and has a pretty window.

We live in a big victorian terrace that is freezing in the winter. Our living room is large with ceilings about 12ft!
I just want to be warm this winter! lol.

Well plenty of stoves out there to choose from. I chose mine on price, practicality and then looks. For me I wanted a good sized fire pit so I wasn't too constrained log size. Then I wanted something that was plain and simple with a good sized glass area to be able to view the fire. Obviously budget played a big part in my choice but I'm very happy with the stove I have

Take your time choosing. It's a big investment. Something you are going to be looking at for many years to come

Thanks again guys, I had finally decided on a cast iron stove, however after trawling through the sites on the internet most of the stoves I like are made from steel! Now I'm back to square one trying to decide! LOL

    Jen

So why not buy one made from steel? Which of the two materials (cast iron or steel) it is made is of little real importance compared with how well it is made and how well it works.

A good steel stove is fully the equal of a good cast iron stove (some would say better) and a poor stove is a poor stove, whatever it's made of.
  • Before any one can advise you you need to give an indication of what size you're heating and if you want your stove to do water and radiators or just heat the room it's in.

I have been trawling through lots of stoves and have seen a few that I like the look of and that have good reviews on whatstove. One is the Villager flatmate (very reasonable price even when multifuel kit added on), The Hamlet Carrington medium stove and Aarrow Sherborne medium stove. I like the simple look of these stoves and the reviews I have read are all good, however the Villager has the best reviews and that is the cheapest! Oh decisions, decisions!!
