It may be a case that it's a confidence issue rather than trouble with her speech... unsure how to say it properly and worried about getting it wrong so just clams up... try encouraging her with stories etc, saying words slowly and encouraging her to copy..Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

My brother had the exact same problem, it turned out that he had an extra piece of skin attached to the underside of his tongue preventing him from forming words properly so he'd just stop talking, one quick op to cut the skin & we couldn't shut him up.
Have a word with your GP & get her tongue checked out just in case.Winnings

hi thanks for all the replies, again, I originally thought ti may be something wrong with her mouth, when brushing her teeth i noticed that it was she never really opened it enough for me to clearly see the back teeth and it seems that she has a lisp, i think the health visitor will turn up today and perhaps she can have a quick look before we book a doctors appointment.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0

My son has problems with S, G, F and doesnt end words properly and is currently doing speech therapy. He has done 7 sessions now and i dont think it is making a real difference at the moment. My son also finds it hard to get out words and will repeat the same word. He has to think about what he says and he does get upset if he cant express himself.
OP i think it is worth going to the doctors to see what they say. I had to wait a year and a half to get my son seen and accessed and even had to hassle them into getting him a place miles away so he could get a place.
Good luck.
Lucifer, that is really interesting, i have always said my son just cant say the words how ever hard he tries (he is 4), i have also said he has problems not with speech but with his mouth. When he says L he sticks his tongue out. I shall have a word with my doctor as they have never offered to look at his mouth.0 -

My son is 3 1/2 now, and his speech is quite unclear. He talks but others find it hard to understand him. I have been referred to a speech therapist and she has said he has under-developed tongue muscles, perhaps because he was 11 weeks premature.
He goes to a school nursery in the afternoons which I really feel has helped. I feel its a constant worry and it keeps me awake at night worrying about him, although I am relived that he understands absolutely everything that people say to him.
Misspenny, I wouldnt worry too much at this stage, my son was extremely shy around other people and wouldnt try to talk to them at all until he was over 2 and a half. I think your son just needs more time to get some confidence with his speech and then you wont be able to shut him up! Good luck and try not to worry just now.0 -
I would try not to worry when the children are so young. I know thats easier said than done. The fact that they can understand people and talk a bit more at home is a good sign.
With going to school they will naturally get better and there is help out there if needed.
As I said in my earlier post all my three were slow talkers and you cant shut em up now!:jMay 2013 new beginnings:j0 -
I've merged this thread with other threads about speech problems and the cost of private speech therapy,
